Harper vs
Newfront
How Harper and Newfront compare when a growing contractor needs specialty placement, vendor insurance tracking and risk-financing advice.
Introduction
Harper arranges commercial insurance with a focus on difficult risks and uses AI tools to help its brokerage staff. Newfront arranges business insurance and benefits and documents services for vendor-certificate tracking and alternative ways to finance risk. For a contractor expanding its projects and subcontractor network, the decision involves both placing coverage and assigning the ongoing work around it. 13 3 26 42 49 46

Key Differences Between Harper and Newfront
Project Requirements in the Placement Brief
If a contractor moves into larger projects, send both brokers the actual operations, contractual limits, vehicle use and employee duties. Harper’s offering includes contractors, bonds, equipment and workers’ compensation. Newfront has casualty and surety practices, including contract and commercial bonds. The overlap is substantial; compare how each proposal addresses this project rather than treating one as basic insurance and the other as automatically necessary for scale. 8 7 12 28 32
A bond adds a different obligation from a liability policy. Harper’s bond page explains that the buyer may need to repay the bond company; Newfront separately markets surety and project-related insurance arrangements. Ask for the bond’s indemnity agreement—the repayment promise—and keep it distinct from the liability proposal. A quoted bond amount does not describe the contractor’s eventual cost if the surety pays a claim. 12 32
Harper’s wholesale page offers access to specialty markets and selected binding programs; Newfront describes negotiations with insurers and broader risk-financing options. For either route, ask which insurers actually considered the project and who can accept the risk on their behalf. Both are brokerage relationships here, and no group ownership or technology description identifies the insurer responsible for every policy. 14 26 21
Proof of Insurance and Subcontractor Compliance
Harper’s portal advertises certificates and policy documents. Newfront’s Partner Management tool specifically tracks vendor certificates, expirations and follow-up inside Navigator. For the contractor, issuing proof to a project owner and collecting proof from subcontractors are two separate administrative tasks. A portal that supplies the first should not be assumed to perform the second. 16 49
Newfront says its contract-review tool extracts requirements, compares them with existing policies and notifies its team. Ask for a demonstration using an appropriate sample contract and define who checks its findings. With Harper, ask the assigned specialist to describe the corresponding contract-review and endorsement process. An unlisted tool is not evidence that assistance is unavailable; the proposal should specify the service actually included. 50 9 17
This work should end with accepted policy wording where a change is needed. Newfront’s terms make Navigator requests preliminary until carrier approval and written confirmation. Harper’s terms prohibit binding or changing insurance by text. Assign someone to close the loop on a required endorsement rather than treating a submitted request as project readiness. 21 2
Retained Risk as Payroll Grows
Harper describes payroll classification help and preparation for workers’ compensation audits. Newfront’s workers’ compensation and alternative-risk practices describe conventional coverage alongside larger-deductible and other risk-financing arrangements. These address different questions: whether payroll and duties are priced correctly, and how much loss cost the contractor chooses to retain. Ask both teams to explain the structure they propose rather than assuming either description mandates a particular financing method. 10 33 46
If a proposed program lowers premium by increasing the deductible or using a captive (a structure through which the business funds its own insured risks), request the funding obligations, fixed costs and risk remaining with the business. Compare these with the conventional proposal on the same loss and payroll assumptions. Newfront’s published capability makes that a concrete discussion to have; it is not a conclusion that such a structure suits this contractor or that Harper cannot obtain alternatives. 46 33 10
Engagement Scope and Cost
Newfront says Partner Management is included in its client service agreements without an additional tool charge. Its business-insurance pages do not establish a standard account fee. Harper’s partner terms describe referral commissions rather than the buyer’s total cost. Request an itemized engagement covering placement, vendor-document work, claims advocacy and any separately priced advice. Included software does not make the whole brokerage service free. 49 26 15
If benefits enter the contractor’s project, Newfront markets a separate Total Rewards practice and publishes its own agreement terms. Harper states that it does not currently offer health or life products. Scope the benefits work and its costs separately, and do not import Newfront’s benefits termination provisions into the commercial-policy comparison. 42 44 3
Both describe claims assistance. Newfront details pre-loss reporting protocols and help with coverage-reservation or denial discussions; Harper describes documentation and carrier advocacy. Ask who coordinates an incident involving the contractor, a subcontractor and multiple policies, and retain the actual notice channels. 52 17
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Project and bond documents: Request accepted operations, coverage terms and separate surety indemnity obligations. 12 32
- Certificate responsibilities: Who issues the company’s proof, tracks subcontractor documents and obtains any needed endorsements? 16 49
- Risk-financing comparison: Show payroll classifications, deductible or funding commitments, fixed costs and claims-administration roles beside the premium. 10 46
- Service agreement: Name included tools, ongoing review work, claims contacts and any separate benefits engagement. 17 26 44
Service Comparison
Harper vs Newfront: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Harper | Newfront |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | Its advertised customers include contractors, restaurants, auto dealers, childcare and adult-care providers, manufacturers, and transportation businesses. Harper emphasizes operations that are difficult to place with an insurer. 8,13 | Newfront is an insurance brokerage for businesses, from early-stage companies to established enterprises. It helps buyers arrange business insurance, manage employee benefits, and coordinate risk management with a specialist team and online tools. Its practices include technology, life sciences, construction, financial services, and public-sector organizations. 19,26,42 |
| Application process | The public quote form asks for your contact and business details, state, estimated annual revenue, business activity and requested coverage. It includes an existing-customer checkbox and a text-message consent choice. The visible form starts an inquiry; it does not display a final premium or issued policy. 1 The founders describe Harper Hub as internal software that helps complete forms, identify carriers and underwriters, and manage client communications. Their Y Combinator launch describes full autonomy as a direction for the business. 6 Harper’s privacy policy says AI extracts document information, drafts messages for review, organizes follow-ups and assists staff. It says licensed professionals and carriers review final decisions, including eligibility and binding. AI marketing therefore does not establish that a machine can approve your coverage on its own. 3 The privacy policy describes collecting applications, loss records and business documents. It also says customer communications and policy information train Harper’s own models, while its enterprise AI vendors state they do not train their foundation models on customer data. These are different uses of your information. 3 Harper’s messaging terms say a text cannot bind, change, renew or cancel insurance. Coverage takes effect only with written confirmation from Harper and the applicable carrier; quotes sent by text remain subject to underwriting and final documentation. 2 Harper’s February 2026 announcement advertises coverage within 24–48 hours. That is a company timing claim, not a deadline established for your application. Ask what information and approvals are still outstanding before arranging work around a proposed start date. 13 | The public buying path starts with a consultation request. The form asks for your role, company, contact details, industry, employee count, and the service you need. It does not display a premium or bind coverage. 27 Newfront describes assembling a team for your industry, reviewing your business and risk exposures, and presenting that information to underwriters. Its technology practice describes onboarding and renewal reviews, with additional market shopping when appropriate. The reviewed public pages do not promise a universal quote or binding turnaround. 26,47,27 Some online services may require you to appoint Newfront as broker of record—the broker designated to service your insurance. Ask which tools and services are included before signing that appointment. 21 Life-science clients can use Newfront’s Clinical Trial Portal to check country requirements, upload documents, and request quotes. The public description does not establish automatic approval or a guaranteed time to receive coverage. 36 |
| Servicing and renewals | For workers’ compensation, Harper says it helps classify payroll by the work employees perform and prepares information for premium audits. Its cost FAQ identifies payroll, job categories and claims history as pricing factors. An audit can reconcile the information used to price the policy; Harper’s service description is not a promise that your premium cannot change. 10,18 Under that referral program, Harper says it owns the account and handles quoting, placement, servicing, renewals and claims; the referring agent has no servicing duties. Its separate wholesale page offers white-label options. If another agent introduces you, clarify which arrangement applies and who will be your ongoing contact. 15,14 Harper’s public portal entry page advertises access to certificates, policies, payments and application status. Sign-in uses the email address associated with a Harper invitation; the page directs customers without an invitation to its service team. Features behind sign-in were not tested. 16 Harper describes ongoing policy management and annual coverage reviews. Its messaging terms list reminders about renewals, billing and premium finance, along with communications about changes and certificates. These service descriptions do not specify a guaranteed renewal price or a commitment to re-shop every policy. 17,2 | Newfront says Navigator brings together policy documents, certificates, claims information, payment tools, and communication with the service team. Its Executive Risk page describes renewal submissions pre-filled with historical data and document sharing with access controls. 48,29 A policy or coverage change requested through Navigator remains preliminary until the applicable carrier approves it and provides written confirmation. A submitted request is not evidence that the new coverage is in force. 21 Newfront says its Partner Management tool is included in client service agreements at no additional cost. It tracks vendor certificates, expiration dates, compliance issues, and follow-up activity inside Navigator. This is a statement about that tool, not a promise of free brokerage services. 49 Newfront’s Contract Review tool extracts insurance requirements, compares them with current policies, provides source citations, and notifies the Newfront team. Its Coverage Gap Analysis tool supports the team’s policy reviews. These are company-described functions; the reviewed materials do not independently establish accuracy or prove that all gaps will be detected. 50,51 Newfront’s March 2026 privacy notice describes integration with WTW as ongoing and anticipates substantial integration by year-end, subject to legal and contractual limits. That is a stated plan, not confirmation that systems, data practices, or service agreements have already been unified. 22 |
| Fees and compensation | Harper Partners advertises a payment of 50% of Harper’s commission to an appropriately licensed referring agent, paid 60 days after the account settles. It says the underlying commission varies by coverage line, premium and carrier. The percentage is a share of commission, not a discount on the buyer’s premium. 15 The reviewed Harper pages do not disclose a buyer-facing schedule of brokerage fees or account-specific commission rates. Its statement that partner agents can join for free does not establish that buying insurance through Harper carries no fees. Request an itemized total, including premium, taxes, fees and any financing charges. 15,17,9,2 | A standard business-insurance fee schedule, commission percentage, or premium range was not found in the reviewed business, consultation, and general-terms pages. Request an account-specific disclosure of brokerage fees, insurer commissions, other remuneration, and any separately billed services. 26,27,21 For Total Rewards, the order form sets compensation. The published terms allow insurer-paid commissions or client fees and disclose additional carrier compensation tied to the wider book of business. They also address non-cash compensation, retained unused carrier funds, and separate pass-through expenses. Newfront says supplemental commissions will not affect its recommendations. 44 Total Rewards agreements renew annually unless written nonrenewal notice is given at least 60 days in advance. Termination for convenience is allowed during renewal terms with 60 days’ written notice; the client must retain Newfront as broker of record through the current agreement term. Separately, a participating Block Strategy client ending the agreement for convenience during an active affected policy can owe an early-exit fee based on remaining premium savings. 44 |
| Claims assistance | Harper says its team assists with claims documentation and communication, and advocates with the carrier. This describes brokerage assistance. The insurer named in the policy remains the company responsible for covered losses; claims support is not a promise that a claim will be paid. 17,18 A dedicated claims-reporting procedure, after-hours response commitment and policy-specific notice address were not established in the reviewed Harper sources. Obtain those instructions with your policy. Harper’s messaging terms warn against relying on texts for urgent matters. 17,16,2 | Newfront describes helping establish reporting protocols before a loss, reviewing how a policy may respond, and acting as the buyer’s liaison with the carrier. Its advocates address coverage-reservation and denial letters, counsel selection, vendor rates, reimbursement, and allocation disputes. This documents claims assistance, not a promise that a claim will be paid. 52 |
