Coverdash vs Marsh

Compare Coverdash’s online brokerage and renewal authorization with Marsh’s negotiated placement and service agreements.

Introduction

Coverdash lets businesses compare and manage insurance online, including through partner software. Marsh starts prospective clients with a brokerage inquiry and describes negotiated insurer placements. For a finance team buying through an existing business platform, the important comparison is who receives authority to place, renew and service the insurance—not simply where the application appears. 9 4 43 44

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Coverdash Shines

  • Small businesses, startups and e-commerce sellers can compare quotes and buy coverage online or through a partner’s embedded insurance service. 4,8,2

Where Marsh Shines

  • Marsh brokers insurance and advises on risk for companies across industries, with a Technology Practice and a US/Canada middle-market path through Marsh McLennan Agency. 28,30,45,47
  • Marsh places cyber insurance through a dedicated practice and markets large digital-infrastructure property placements through Stratus, alongside MMA executive, property, casualty and benefits brokerage. 35,51,31,32,30

Key Differences Between Coverdash and Marsh

The Host Platform Is Not the Insurance Adviser

Coverdash’s terms assign solicitation and insurance service to its brokerage entity, even when the experience appears inside another company’s software. They also describe broker-of-record appointment and exclusivity unless otherwise agreed. Marsh uses client agreements for its engagements. Read the appointment terms before treating an application as a neutral request for prices from several independent advisers. 2 45

Renewal Authorization Deserves Its Own Decision

For policies whose payments Coverdash facilitates, its authorization permits automatic renewal with increases of up to 20% if material terms do not change; larger increases or material changes require renewed consent. It also addresses renewal financing. Marsh’s service scope depends on the engagement rather than a published universal renewal timetable. Agree on who will review terms, approve spending and track deadlines before delegating renewal administration. 6 45

Access Charges and Advice Are Different Costs

Coverdash discloses a nonrefundable Technology Access Fee on purchased policies, without publishing its amount, alongside other possible remuneration. Marsh discloses commissions, client fees and additional forms of compensation that differ by segment. Ask for the proposed service scope beside an itemized total; a charge for platform access does not describe the same work as an advisory agreement. 5 45

What to Confirm in Quotes

Request the appointed producer, insurer, California eligibility, renewal consent rules and cancellation instructions. Coverdash’s FAQ and terms describe different payment-and-binding sequences, so obtain written confirmation of when coverage begins. For Marsh, distinguish the initial sales inquiry from the underwriting submission and final binder, with a named person responsible for each step. 4 2 43 44

Service Comparison

Coverdash vs Marsh: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoverdashMarsh
Business role

Coverdash’s terms name Coverdash, Inc. and Coverdash Insurance Services, LLC; the LLC provides the insurance brokerage service. It arranges coverage with insurance companies and says it does not underwrite policies. 2

The reviewed corporate pages identify Coverdash, Inc. and Coverdash Insurance Services, LLC but do not establish their precise ownership relationship or a current controlling parent. 2,8

A partner can put Coverdash’s quote and policy-management experience inside its own website or software. Coverdash’s terms assign insurance solicitation and service to Coverdash rather than the host platform. 9,2

Marsh’s US compensation guide states that, as an insurance broker, Marsh’s role is to facilitate placement of insurance coverage on behalf of clients. The transparency page describes determining appropriate insurers and negotiating with those insurers. Marsh is not identified in these sources as the insurer that issues or pays the policy. 45,44,29

Current Marsh materials use more than one US legal name. The compensation guide (copyright 2024, Marsh LLC) refers to Marsh LLC and Marsh USA LLC entering client agreements. The transparency page instead names Marsh LLC and Marsh USA Inc. Marsh McLennan Agency is described as a wholly owned Marsh subsidiary. A 2006 California decision caption used MARSH USA, INC., dba MARSH RISK AND INSURANCE SERVICES, license 0437153. Confirm the exact contracting producer on the proposal and license documents; current California license status remains unverified. 45,44,46,47,28,58

Coverage lines

Coverdash’s core catalogue lists general liability, business owner’s policies, commercial property and workers’ compensation. 3

Professional and management offerings include professional E&O, technology E&O, lawyers professional liability, management liability, directors and officers, standalone D&O Side A, a D&O and employment-practices bundle, employment practices, fiduciary liability, media liability and transactional risk. 3

The cyber and crime group lists cyber insurance, commercial crime, and kidnap and ransom. 3

Property specialties include inland marine, equipment breakdown, builders risk, flood, wind and hail, earthquake, property difference-in-conditions insurance and terrorism. 3

Transport offerings include commercial auto, automobile physical damage, garagekeepers, motor truck cargo, non-trucking liability and ocean marine. 3

Coverdash also markets umbrella, excess liability, product liability, product recall, pollution, liquor liability, special-event, abuse and molestation, workplace violence, global-package, business travel accident and surety products. 3

Its bond page lists license and permit, contract, court, and fidelity bonds. It describes fidelity protection for client losses caused by employee dishonesty. 21

Coverdash describes a business owner’s policy as combining general liability, property and business-interruption protection. Its FAQ says eligibility depends on industry, location and premises, and some higher-risk businesses may need separate policies. 16

Coverdash separately markets technology E&O for financial harm alleged from technology work and cyber insurance for breaches and attacks. Its Tech E&O FAQ says cyber is bundled in some policies, but not all. 17,22

Coverdash describes D&O as the core of management liability, with options for employment practices, fiduciary and crime protection. It also markets standalone Side A for individual directors and officers when the company cannot indemnify them—pay their defense or liability costs. 18,19

Its transactional-risk offering includes representations and warranties insurance for acquisition-related breaches, plus tax and contingent-liability products. 20

No insurer-specific specimen forms or complete carrier-by-product schedule were found in the reviewed coverage pages. The product descriptions do not establish your exclusions, deductibles, limits or claims-reporting requirements. 3,16,17,18,2

Marsh’s Cyber Insurance practice markets brokerage of cyber policies and related analytics products. Marsh McLennan Agency’s cyber page lists solution areas such as cybercrime, extortion and ransomware, media liability, network interruption and privacy regulatory defense costs. The Technology Practice’s data-center service describes programs that can include property damage, equipment breakdown, business interruption, cyber, general liability and surety for power and interconnection obligations. Stratus is marketed as an operational property exchange for digital infrastructure with potential access to up to $10 billion of property capacity on a single placement; at launch it is focused on property, with inland marine, cyber and casualty described as possible later lines. These are marketed capabilities, not a standard startup package or guaranteed limits. 35,51,31,32,30

Marsh’s Directors and Officers page offers D&O program design for public, private and non-profit companies. Its Employment Practices page offers EPLI, including endorsements described for firms with more than 4,000 employees and for midsize firms with 250 to 4,000 employees. Its Professional Liability page offers E&O risk-transfer design, including for technology businesses. MMA’s executive and professional liability practice lists D&O, E&O, EPL, commercial crime/fidelity, cyber, fiduciary, media, intellectual property and kidnap-and-ransom among policies it places. Endorsement headcount bands and product labels do not establish that a particular Bay Area company qualifies or that wording is equivalent across insurers. 38,39,40,52,41

MMA’s business-insurance hub links casualty, property, surety, cyber, executive and professional liability, international placements, captives and small-business programs. Its property page covers commercial property and builders’ risk. Its casualty page includes workers’ compensation. MMA and Marsh sites also market employee health and benefits consulting and placement. MMA’s compensation-guide landing page exists for 2026 but the PDF body was not fully extracted here. 50,53,54,55,56,45

Application process

Coverdash’s public application begins with an email-address field. Its FAQ says to have your business name, address, industry, annual revenue and employee count ready; it describes online quote comparison and purchasing, with same-day coverage for most policies. 10,4

The FAQ says payment follows choosing and binding a policy, but the terms allow collecting payment before binding and later insurer rejection or repricing. Confirm the effective date and binding confirmation before relying on coverage. 4,2

Using the brokerage service means appointing Coverdash as broker or agent of record and working exclusively with it for those services unless otherwise agreed. 2

The public Marsh path to speak with a broker is an inquiry, not an online bind. Contact pages ask you to choose an inquiry type, including a sales or RFP route. The business-inquiry page says to complete a form and that a representative will respond within 48 hours; it points existing-policy certificate, billing and policy questions elsewhere. The inquiry page does not display premiums or bind coverage. The 48-hour response time is a company statement, not a binding or service guarantee. 42,43,48

Marsh describes a broker-led placement: identifying insurers for the risk, negotiating coverage and price, and, in core US broking segments, disclosing quotes and premium indications received. It may share incumbent or competing insurer names, pricing objectives, expiring terms, or give an insurer a last look when it believes that is in the client’s interest or the client instructs it. Those market practices are disclosure statements, not a guaranteed outcome or turnaround. 45,44

Access to insurers

Coverdash advertises access to more than 40 carriers and displays names including Chubb, Travelers, Hiscox and Nationwide. It does not promise that every applicant will receive quotes from that entire panel. 1,8

Nationwide’s own agency directory lists Coverdash Insurance Services and links to coverdash.com, independently supporting that carrier relationship. The listing does not identify the insurer or terms for a particular Coverdash quote. 15

Marsh and MMA describe access to multiple insurers rather than a single issuing carrier for all business. MMA says it works with a wide variety of carriers. Stratus is a prior-submit exchange in which participating insurers evaluate each risk individually; the page does not name those insurers. Marsh’s compensation and transparency pages say Marsh or affiliates may receive insurer consulting compensation and may own equity interests in certain insurers or reinsurers, with a list on the transparency site. Victor, an affiliated MGU and wholesale broker, is described as accessing markets retail Marsh US cannot offer directly; that path is documented for some programs and is not assumed for every placement. Ask for the issuing insurer, surplus-lines status and proposed forms on the quote. 50,32,44,45,46

Fees and compensation

Coverdash discloses a Technology Access Fee on each purchased policy, in addition to policy charges, and calls it fully earned and nonrefundable. The disclosure does not give its amount. 5

Coverdash may receive insurer or payment-servicer commissions, performance-related contingent or supplemental commissions, and negotiated client fees. It also discloses affinity-referral and administrative-service income. 5

Coverdash’s help center identifies Ascend as its payment and premium-finance partner. It explains that financing pays the annual premium upfront while the customer repays in installments. Confirm the current lender, interest and fees in the payment agreement. 12,6

Marsh’s US compensation guide says it may be paid by insurer retail commissions, client fees (often in a written Client Service Agreement, sometimes crediting commissions), wholesale commissions, insurer consulting compensation, supplemental commissions, compensation for facilities or other insurer arrangements, interest on premium accounts, and other benefits. Marsh says it does not accept contingent commissions on domestic placements for US clients in core broking operations, except for employee health and benefits or when acting as managing general agent or underwriting manager; Marsh McLennan Agency does accept contingent commissions. Standard public premium ranges or a startup fee schedule were not found. Request an account-specific disclosure of commissions, fees, contingent or supplemental amounts, premium finance charges and any affiliated-market compensation. 45,44,57
