CNA vs
Travelers
CNA directs U.S. small-business buyers to an agent and documents agent-facing service channels. Travelers also directs business buyers to independent agents, and says its Select Accounts platform lets agents quote, bind and issue many small-business risks. Travelers' claim-reporting routes are described around the clock; CNA's Claims Center lists a weekday phone route. These are process descriptions, not outcome measures. 3,64,51
Introduction
Both companies publish agent routes for business insurance, so compare the specific agent, product and account segment rather than assuming a consumer checkout. Travelers says independent agents use an automated underwriting platform to quote, bind and issue many Select Accounts small-business risks, while more complex risks are underwritten with company personnel. CNA directs small-business buyers to an agent; the reviewed CNA route fact does not describe a matching automated underwriting workflow. That difference in public detail does not prove CNA lacks such a workflow. 64 41 3

CNA
Review Score
1 rated source
Customer feedback on CNA is mixed and hard to compare. NerdWallet gave it 4.5 out of 5 for manufacturers, while Trustpilot shows about 1.4 out of 5 from 49 mostly self-selected reviews.[1][5]

Review Score
3 rated sources
Travelers earns 4.5/5 from NerdWallet, but customer feedback is poor: 1.4/5 on Trustpilot and 1.3/5 for homeowners on ConsumerAffairs. Those reviews mostly concern personal insurance.[1][2][4][5][6][7]
Read Travelers reviewsServicing by Account Type
Travelers lists online bill payment, claim reporting and tracking, policy documents and real-time certificates in MyTravelers for Business. The certificate listing has no segment footnote. Footnote 1 limits display of limits, deductibles and policy changes to Select Accounts and National Programs Commercial Multi-Peril customers; footnote 2 limits adding additional interests while creating a certificate to those segments' Service Center customers. CNA's current small-business page describes agent access to policy documents, loss runs and claims information. More detailed CNA billing and renewal-document functions come from a guide copyrighted 2022, so confirm which parts remain available for the account you are quoting. 53 41 3 5
Claim Reporting Is Not Claim Payment
Travelers says business losses can be reported at any time through an agent, online system, MyTravelers for Business or a telephone number. It also describes a Technology claim unit. CNA's Claims Center provides an online entry point for reporting options and weekday phone help. Travelers' broader stated intake access does not predict claim resolution, and CNA's page does not establish full online filing. Read the policy for the actual insurer's notice rules and deadlines. 51 53 7
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Does the Travelers risk fit Select Accounts, or will it go to a specialty underwriter? Which agent will place the CNA policy and service it?
- Which portal features, including certificates and claim status, apply to the exact account segment and insurer?
- Confirm the named insurer and the correct claim notice route, deadline and supporting-document requirements for each policy.
- Ask for side-by-side forms, limits, exclusions, endorsements, fees and effective dates. Shared agent distribution does not make the policies interchangeable.

|---|---|---|
| Application process | CNA directs small-business buyers to work with an agent. CNA also says its U.S. offices work with independent agents and brokers to provide policyholder service and insurance solutions. 3,4Company-reported. CNA’s stated U.S. small-business route and U.S. agency relationships. These sources do not establish that every CNA product requires an agent or that buyers can complete a purchase directly online. | Travelers tells business buyers to get a quote through an independent agent, using a public agency locator. Its 2025 Form 10-K says Select Accounts uses an automated underwriting platform so agents can quote, bind and issue a substantial amount of small-business risks, while more complex risks are underwritten with company personnel. Technology and CyberRisk Tech pages likewise tell buyers to consult an agent or Travelers representative; a direct public bind path for technology packages was not found on the reviewed pages. 41,58,36,38,64,57Company-reported. Application path described on contact, agent-locator, technology and 10-K sources. Automated small-commercial issuance is not evidence that a technology, D&O or cyber submission will quote or bind the same way. |
| Servicing and renewals | CNA says CNA Central gives small-business agents access to policy documents, loss runs, and claims information. CNA’s 2022 agent guide says agents can access policy, billing, and claims information and download new-business, renewal, and endorsement documents. This describes agent access, not automatic renewal or a guaranteed renewal offer. 3,5Company-reported. Small-business agent servicing through CNA Central, based on the current U.S. small-business page and a guide copyrighted 2022. The guide’s detailed portal functions are historical interface descriptions; renewal-document access does not establish that every policy renews or will receive an offer. A CNA Small Business Service Center handout copyrighted 2021 says the center handles participating agency customers’ inquiries about certificates, policy changes, coverage, billing, and additional coverage or endorsement quotes. It states weekday hours of 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Central Time and says the agency/customer relationship remains in place. This describes a particular service-center program, not every CNA account. 6Company-reported. Company-reported service-center functions from a 2021 CNA handout. The handout describes enrollment and account selection for this small-business agency program; it does not establish availability for every CNA policy or account. | MyTravelers for Business lists online bill payment, claim reporting and tracking, policy documents and certificates. The page lists real-time certificates without a segment footnote. Footnote 1 qualifies display of limits, deductibles and policy changes for Select Accounts and National Programs Commercial Multi-Peril customers. Footnote 2 limits adding additional interests while creating a certificate to Select Accounts and National Programs Commercial Multi-Peril Service Center customers. 53,41Company-reported. Portal and contact descriptions as of 16 September 2026. Feature availability can differ by account segment; this is not a service-quality finding. |
| Claims assistance | CNA’s Claims Center provides an online entry point where a visitor enters a few details to learn claim-reporting options and lists phone help Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern. The page does not establish complete online filing or claim outcomes. 7Company-reported. CNA U.S. Claims Center page accessed 2026-09-28; policy-specific reporting instructions, completion of a claim online, and claim outcomes are not established by this page. | Travelers says business-insurance losses can be reported 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by contacting the agent, using the online claim system or MyTravelers for Business, or calling 800-238-6225. It describes a dedicated Technology claim unit staffed since 1998 with claim attorneys and insurance professionals. Those statements describe access paths and an internal unit; they do not establish claim outcomes or coverage decisions. 51,52,41Company-reported. Business claims and technology-claim sections accessed 16 September 2026. Reporting a claim is not the same as coverage being granted. |
