Beazley vs Layr

Distinguish Beazley underwriting from a Layr-powered broker portal when reviewing technology coverage, renewals and payment charges.

Introduction

A founder may receive a broker-branded portal powered by Layr while evaluating a policy bearing Beazley’s name. Layr supplies workflow software and licensed support to brokerages; Beazley offers insurance products such as MediaTech. Those roles can coexist. The portal choice and the insurance contract should be evaluated separately, with the broker identifying the actual insurer and service responsibilities. 22 25 1

Key Differences Between Beazley and Layr

Keep the Broker Relationship Separate from the Platform

Layr says a participating brokerage keeps broker-of-record status while Layr handles sales, service and support. Its FAQ describes using national insurers, wholesalers and the brokerage’s own carriers. This does not establish Beazley access in every Layr implementation. Ask the brokerage whether the offered technology policy is a new placement, an existing policy managed through the portal, or another insurer’s contract. 22 26 2

Beazley’s posted application and US disclosures distinguish insurance entities from services entities. A broker logo, Layr account and Beazley document can therefore refer to different responsibilities in one transaction. Request a clear contact for advice, binding, billing and endorsements rather than expecting the visible brand to perform every task. 2 6 25

A Demonstrated Cyber Choice Is Not a Technology Form

Layr’s current New Business Capture illustration includes cyber, but its previously reviewed dedicated cyber page returned 404 on re-access. Beazley’s MediaTech product page directly describes technology E&O, media and cyber together. The evidence supports requesting a current Layr-broker proposal, not treating a demonstration or historical feature list as equivalent coverage. 24 27 1

Neither the missing page nor an unlisted technology E&O catalogue key proves the broker cannot obtain that cover. The practical test is whether its proposed form captures your technology work, with California availability and the insurer identified. 26 5

Payment and Renewal Support Need Implementation-Specific Terms

Layr’s broker FAQ and consumer compensation page describe different economics: a premium-based arrangement alongside retained broker commissions, and a consumer finance-fee disclosure. The record does not reconcile their applicability. Beazley’s MediaTech materials supply no comparable buyer-specific fee schedule. Request the actual invoice and financing agreement; do not apply a historical maximum finance fee to every Layr portal. 26 28 6

Layr describes collecting renewal updates and negotiating with underwriters. Beazley publishes a renewal application. If both are involved, ask who collects the answers and who confirms insurer acceptance. A completed portal task is not itself a renewal guarantee. 26 4

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Which broker retains your account, and which functions are delegated to Layr? 22
  • What current cyber/technology form and insurer does the portal offer, and can it place the requested Beazley product? 26 1
  • Which payment charges and renewal responsibilities apply to this implementation, and where must a claim be reported under the policy? 28 25 8

Service Comparison

Beazley vs Layr: documented services and availability

CriteriaBeazleyLayr
Business role

Beazley is a specialty insurance group operating through insurance companies and underwriting businesses. Its US disclosures distinguish the insurance entities from Beazley USA Services, Inc., which reports doing business in California as Beazley Insurance Services under license 0G55497. This is a company disclosure, not an independently verified license record. 5,6,7

Layr Holdings, Inc. operates withlayr.com and markets the Layr Apex platform and licensed support service. Public materials describe Layr handling sales, service and support while its brokerage customer keeps the broker-of-record relationship; they do not identify Layr as the insurer underwriting every policy. 29,21,22,25

The reviewed sources identify Layr Holdings, Inc., its leaders and several investors, but do not disclose a current controlling parent or ownership percentages. 29,30,32

Layr says a participating brokerage can offload small-business sales, service and support to Layr while retaining broker-of-record status and 100% of its commissions. 22,26

Access to insurers

The posted Digital Media Tech application names Beazley Insurance Company, Inc. Beazley’s broader disclosures also describe surplus-lines business through Beazley Excess and Surplus Insurance, Inc. or Beazley-managed Lloyd’s syndicates. The actual MediaTech insurer and California placement basis must be identified in the quote. 2,7

Layr says it works with major national insurers, accesses other markets through wholesalers and can use a brokerage customer's existing carriers. It does not publish a current legal-entity carrier panel or promise that every market will quote every account. 26

The reviewed current product, portal and FAQ pages do not identify the issuing insurer or policy form for each available product. Those details must come from the actual proposal and policy. 24,27,26

Servicing and renewals

Beazley publishes a MediaTech renewal application. The reviewed renewal form and product page do not establish a guaranteed renewal, dedicated account manager, or turnaround commitment for policy changes. 4,1

Full Spectrum Cyber for small businesses combines Beazley Breach Response with security tools and services. Beazley describes incident-response coordination and discounted vendor services. Its myBeazley quote-and-bind route is for brokers handling accounts below $35 million in revenue and limits no higher than $5 million; these are cyber-route criteria, not MediaTech eligibility rules. 9

Layr markets a white-labeled portal with licensed support and broker dashboard updates for policies, renewals, claims and payments. A company release also describes policyholder access to documents, quotes, claims, certificates, bills and electronic payments. 25,32

Layr says its team gathers updates, negotiates renewal terms with underwriters and finalizes renewal documents. It describes automatic-renewal policies as hands-free and says customers whose policies need updated information are alerted 60 days before renewal. 26

Fees and compensation

The reviewed MediaTech product page, application and US website terms do not disclose a buyer-specific premium, broker commission rate or fee schedule for a MediaTech placement. Obtain an itemized quote and the placing broker’s compensation disclosure. 1,2,6

Layr's current broker FAQ says Layr receives a percentage of premium while the brokerage keeps 100% of commissions. A separate consumer-facing disclosure says carriers pay Layr a commission and businesses may pay a finance fee of up to 20% of premium. The pages do not reconcile which arrangement applies to a particular broker, policyholder or payment plan. 26,28

Layr's consumer-facing compensation disclosure says a business that uses its monthly credit-card payment arrangement can pay a percentage-based finance fee of up to 20% of premium. The page does not provide an account-specific rate, total repayment or cancellation terms. 28
