Armilla vs HUB International

Why Armilla’s AI-model liability and performance warranties are not a substitute for HUB International’s commercial brokerage, including workers’ compensation and D&O.

Introduction

Armilla and HUB International both use the word insurance around technology companies, but Armilla’s public products are artificial-intelligence (AI) model and agent liability and separate performance warranties, plus assessments. HUB brokers conventional commercial lines. Armilla’s published materials do not market workers’ compensation, a business owners policy or a full directors and officers (D&O) program. HUB’s technology E&O list does not mean HUB issues Armilla’s warranty. The buyer question is whether you need a specialty AI placement in addition to a HUB (or other) broker program. 2 4 18 25

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Armilla Shines

  • Dedicated liability coverage for AI model and agent failures 3
  • Model assessments with remediation support and optional retesting 5

Where HUB International Shines

  • HUB’s technology practice markets insurance and benefits programs to startups and software, hardware and digital-media companies, and says it currently insures more than 5,000 technology companies. 18
  • HUB routes qualifying small commercial accounts to Insureon’s online quote and other business insurance to a HUB advisor or local office; there is no published self-serve bind path for mid-market programs on hubinternational.com. 16,19,20,21,18,14

Key Differences Between Armilla and HUB International

Specialty Program Versus Retail Broker

Armilla markets AI liability insurance, performance warranties and model assessments, and describes its insurance operation as a managing general agent (MGA) and Lloyd’s coverholder—not the risk-bearing insurer. 3 1 HUB is a retail broker whose subsidiaries place conventional commercial policies issued by insurers. 12 13

Armilla’s producer identity and surplus-lines route matter for US-California access. HUB’s California retail producer remains unnamed; using HUB does not automatically bind Armilla. 7 6 13

Insurance Versus Warranty

Armilla’s standalone AI liability brief lists model errors, hallucinations, agent mistakes and related sample coverage areas; those are advertised scopes, not a confirmed loss payment. 3 Armilla Guaranteed is a contractual performance warranty, not an insurance policy. 4

Those products have different backing (insurance versus warranty). Do not describe a warranty as an insurance policy. HUB’s published catalogue does not list Armilla warranties. 3 17

Assessments

Armilla documents model assessments with remediation and optional retesting. HUB documents a risk-management information system (RMIS) and claims analytics for conventional programs. They are not the same service. 5 41

How to Buy

Armilla’s application process and broker channel sit beside HUB Contact Us. A buyer can ask a HUB advisor whether it will approach Armilla; HUB’s published materials do not name Armilla, which is “not named,” not a prohibition. 1 16

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Which document is insurance versus warranty, and who backs each. 8

  • Surplus-lines producer for California if Armilla paper is non-admitted. 7

  • The rest of the program (workers’ compensation, general liability, directors and officers) still placed by HUB or another broker. 17

Service Comparison

Armilla vs HUB International: documented services and availability

CriteriaArmillaHUB International
Business role

Armilla markets AI liability insurance, performance warranties and model assessments. It describes its insurance operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with underwriting responsibilities, and names Armilla Insurance Services as a Lloyd’s coverholder. These descriptions do not make Armilla the risk-bearing insurer. 3,1,6

Florida’s corporate registry lists Armilla Insurance Services Inc., a Delaware corporation. This establishes a corporate identity, not an insurance license or authority to place a California risk. 8

HUB International Limited describes itself as a full-service insurance broker and financial-services firm. Its website terms say HUB’s subsidiaries are licensed as insurance brokers or agents in various U.S. states and Canadian provinces. The reviewed product pages market brokerage of policies issued by insurers, not HUB as a risk-bearing carrier for those policies. 12,13,17

HUB’s About Us timeline states that in 2022 it acquired Insureon for digital delivery of small-business commercial insurance. Insureon and TechInsurance say they are part of HUB; Insureon says it operates as a division of Specialty Program Group LLC, doing business as SPG Insurance Solutions. TechInsurance describes itself as part of Insureon rather than as a separate HUB retail office. 12,42,43,44,45

Coverage lines

Armilla’s standalone AI liability brief lists model errors and hallucinations, harmful outputs, agent mistakes, non-breach data leakage, third-party property damage and AI-related regulatory proceedings as sample coverage areas. These are advertised scopes, not confirmation that a particular loss or fine is insured. 3

Armilla Guaranteed is a contractual performance warranty, not an insurance policy. Armilla says it funds remedies for missed agreed metrics; its FAQ describes a buyer refund when the issue cannot be resolved and identifies misuse, unauthorized changes and external events as typical exclusions. 2,4

HUB publishes dedicated business-insurance product pages for, among other lines, general liability, commercial property, workers’ compensation, business owners policies, commercial auto (including hired and non-owned exposures and trucking), cyber, directors and officers, professional liability/E&O, crime, fiduciary liability, kidnap and ransom, surety bonds, medical malpractice, marine/inland marine and cargo, boiler and machinery/equipment breakdown, and mergers-and-acquisitions representations-and-warranties insurance. Its casualty page also lists product liability, umbrella and excess, and product-recall as program elements. Employee-benefits brokerage is marketed separately. Actual policy forms, limits and eligibility are not set by those marketing pages. 17,19,27,25,26,28,21,20,22,23,29,30,31,32,33,36,37,34,35,38,24

For technology companies, HUB lists professional liability/technology E&O, cyber, a patent package described as property, auto, liability and umbrella, international placements, cargo/stock throughput, property/builders risk, pollution liability, management liability including D&O, employment-practices liability, fiduciary liability, transactional/warranty insurance, crime, workers’ compensation, employee benefits, key-person life and disability, retirement solutions, and kidnap and ransom. 18

Application process

Armilla’s insurance FAQ says to begin with an AI risk assessment, followed by a tailored insurance or warranty plan. The site directs buyers to contact its team; coverage requires written confirmation and completion of underwriting requirements. 2,1

On hubinternational.com, commercial buyers are asked to contact a broker, connect with a specialist, or use Contact Us. Small-commercial inquiries meeting HUB’s stated size tests go to Insureon for an online quote. Product pages such as general liability, D&O, cyber and workers’ compensation use “Contact Us” or “Connect With a Broker” rather than an on-site bind flow. Privacy policy language refers to automation for insurance quoting, without documenting a public HUB retail e-commerce checkout for mid-market programs. 16,19,20,21,18,14

Access to insurers

Armilla names certain underwriters at Lloyd’s for its affirmative AI liability insurance. Its product brief also names Chaucer, Axis Capital and Convex as backing partners, without identifying the contracting insurer or syndicate for an individual quote. 1,3

The warranty brief names Chaucer Group, Greenlight Re and Swiss Re as backing partners. It does not identify the legal warranty issuer, the buyer’s direct rights against a backing insurer, or a California-specific warranty contract. 4

HUB’s compensation page says it has access to the products and services of hundreds of insurers and that it focuses on a smaller set of “Strategic Carriers,” which may pay enhanced compensation. Property, casualty and marine pages refer to domestic, national, regional, specialty and global carrier relationships without publishing a complete appointment list. ProEx says it places more than $2 billion of premium with top-rated insurance carriers; that volume and rating language is company-reported and does not name the carriers. Issuing insurers therefore have to be taken from a quote, not from the public catalogue. 15,27,35,36,24

Insureon says it has access to 100+ insurance providers and names The Hartford, Chubb, Hiscox, Liberty Mutual and Travelers as examples. Those names are Insureon’s examples for its digital agency, not a statement that every HUB retail placement uses the same insurers, and they do not identify the issuing company on a particular policy. 42

Servicing and renewals

Armilla Verified evaluates model performance, fairness, security and robustness. Armilla describes scoping, testing, remediation support and an internal report, with a badge conditional on meeting benchmarks. Optional monitoring and retesting are offered as models change. 5

The reviewed assessment and insurance pages do not disclose insurance renewal procedures or whether ongoing model monitoring is included in the premium. Optional assessment support should be priced and scoped separately in the proposal. 5,2

HUB describes ongoing servicing through local account teams (ProEx notes local policy review and certificates of insurance), a Risk Management Information System for claims administration, certificate tracking and carrier/TPA data, and employee-benefits work that includes multi-year cost planning and renewal support. RMIS is described as available in various tiers. None of those pages publish a standard service-level agreement or fee for those tools. 24,41,38
