Switch from Coterie

Switching from Coterie? Compare your options with Spot

Coterie policies are quoted by an agent in a dashboard, so your Spot team starts from your agent’s paperwork and finds out whether a broker can offer more than a small-business package.

  • Limits and endorsements checked against your contracts
  • Package and standalone quotes side by side
  • Renewal and fee terms read before you decide

How it works

Share your Coterie policy and agent’s contact

Send the declarations page, the forms and the renewal notice. Coterie policies usually renew on their own, so your Spot team notes the date and the saved payment setting.

Match your contracts to the policy

Moving from Coterie Insurance

Coterie is an agent-facing digital platform for small and micro commercial businesses. A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie’s dashboard, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Businesses without an agent can use its agent finder, and it offers general liability, business owner’s policies and miscellaneous professional liability.

Why businesses consider switching

  • 01

A second location or new hires

Growth can move you from a package built for very small businesses toward a program that needs separate lines.

  • 02

A client wants more than the package gives

Higher limits, additional insured wording or a waiver of subrogation sometimes call for a different form or insurer.

  • 03

You’d like a person to compare options

A dashboard quote is quick for an agent, but some owners want someone to explain trade-offs before they pay.

  • 04

The renewal looks different from last year

Changes to premium, fees or the insurer on the renewal notice are worth comparing against other proposals.

How to switch without a gap

  • 01

    Read the renewal notice

Look at the insurer, forms, limits, deductible and fees. Coterie policies can renew automatically with the saved payment method, so note the date.

  • 02

Turn off auto-renewal only after the new policy is bound

Ending the old policy early can leave a gap that breaches your lease. Hold the existing policy until the replacement is confirmed in writing.

  • 03

    Ask your agent about cancellation

The agent who started your quote is the first call for cancelling and for any unearned premium. Ask what fees stay payable.

  • 04

    Replace your certificates

Landlords and clients hold certificates of insurance that name the old policy. Generate new ones in the Spot app once the replacement is active.

Common questions

Do I need an agent to switch from Coterie?

Your policy came through one, so ask them about renewal and cancellation. Spot works alongside agents and brokers, so you can keep yours in the conversation or let your Spot team bring in a different broker.

Can Spot compare bigger limits than a small-business package?

Yes. If your contracts need higher limits or more endorsements than a small-business package offers, your Spot team puts those requirements in the submission and compares what comes back.

Does Coterie have any link to Spot?

None. Spot isn’t affiliated with Coterie, and nothing here comes from Coterie.

My Coterie policy runs for a year. Can I move earlier?

You can ask for cancellation midterm, but Coterie lists fees that can be nonrefundable, so read your terms. Many owners wait for the renewal date and bind the new policy to start that day.

Does Spot get paid when I buy a policy?

Premium commissions are not part of Spot’s model. Brokers and agents are paid by the insurers they place with, and you can bring yours into the process.
