Does K&R Cover Ransomware?
Do not assume it does; ransomware is commonly addressed in cyber insurance, while K&R coverage depends on its cyber-extortion wording.
A ransomware demand may resemble extortion, but that alone does not establish coverage under a K&R policy. Chubb’s cyber product page describes a ransomware encounter endorsement that can tailor limits and retention for losses arising from a ransomware encounter. Its K&R page separately lists extortion-related protection. These are different products, and their triggers and covered costs may not match.
Check whether your cyber policy covers ransom, negotiation, forensics, restoration, and business interruption, then inspect any K&R cyber-extortion provision for overlap or gaps. Confirm approval requirements, sublimits, waiting periods, and who provides incident response. Coordinate the two policies and report a suspected incident according to their terms; do not assume purchasing both doubles the available limit.
