Does K&R Cover Extortion?

Some K&R policies expressly cover defined extortion events, but the demand and response must satisfy the policy wording.

Extortion is separately identified in Chubb’s U.S. K&R product summary, which lists extortion among covered events and includes an extortion-related coverage description. Travelers also markets K&R protection for financial impacts from extortion. These are carrier-specific descriptions and do not establish how another form defines a qualifying threat.

Check what the policy requires the threatener to demand or threaten, whether the target must be an insured person or property, and whether cyber extortion is included. Review any geographic restriction, sublimit, waiting period, consent requirement, and applicable-law or sanctions language. A demand that feels coercive may still fail the policy definition, so compare the actual facts with the issued wording.
