Does K&R Cover Blackmail?

It depends on whether the blackmail threat fits the policy’s definition of extortion and all coverage conditions are met.

Blackmail is not automatically covered just because it involves a demand for money or another benefit. A K&R policy may define extortion around a specified threat against a person, property, or information; Chubb lists extortion as a covered event in its product summary, but does not establish a universal rule for every blackmail scenario.

Check whether threats to disclose confidential, personal, or damaging information qualify, and whether the policy has a separate cyber-extortion definition or limit. Review who must receive the threat, who is insured, the required notice and consent steps, and any exclusions for disputes or prior threats. Ask the insurer to confirm in writing how the quote handles the scenario you are concerned about.
