Does Inland Marine Cover Laptops?
A laptop may fit a covered property class, but a contractors’ equipment floater may not include it unless the wording or schedule does.
Laptops are business personal property, but that does not establish coverage under every inland-marine policy. The California Department of Insurance describes commercial property as covering business personal property at insured premises and inland marine as a separate, specialized line. An equipment floater may define “equipment” narrowly or require specified items to be scheduled.
Check whether laptops are listed, whether employee take-home or travel use is included, and whether the policy applies away from scheduled premises and during transit. Review limits for portable electronics, theft conditions, deductibles, and exclusions for loss or disappearance without evidence of a covered event. If the quote is for contractors’ equipment, ask directly whether ordinary office computers qualify.
