New York Requirements
What to Watch for in New York
Cover Dealer Plate Vehicles
New York’s dealer regulation requires proof covering any motor vehicle you own or control and operate under a dealer plate before the plates issue. Ask the broker to confirm demo and other plate use fit the insured vehicle definition and policy terms. 1
Bond Amount Follows Dealer Class And Sales
New York’s dealer bond statute sets different amounts for qualified and new motor dealers, and for other dealers according to prior calendar-year sales. The bond secures specified dealer obligations; it does not substitute for the plate insurance card. 2
Registered Autos Need New York Coverage
New York DMV says vehicles registered in the state must maintain liability insurance from an insurer licensed and authorized in New York, and the insured and registration names must match exactly. Check any separately registered shop or business vehicles for a continuous policy and matching entity name. 3
