Hiscox vs Risklytics

Hiscox sells small-business liability and BOP; Risklytics is a brokerage for robotics, AV, hardware and AI companies that reads specialty E&O forms. Compare a general small-business carrier with a hardware/AI placement broker.

Introduction

A robotics or autonomous-vehicle company may need a broker who will read technology errors and omissions wording for artificial-intelligence exclusions. Risklytics markets that work. Hiscox offers quotes for professional liability for eligible small-business classes. Risklytics’ published agency-license table dated September 10, 2026 does not list California. Hiscox publishes California producer information. 28 16

Key Differences Between Hiscox and Risklytics

Specialty Brokerage Versus Small-Business Carrier

Risklytics describes itself as a commercial insurance brokerage (Risklytics, Inc. doing business as). Hiscox Insurance Company Inc. underwrites Hiscox products offered online. Risklytics’ terms allow submissions directly to insurers or through wholesale brokers. Its terms, markets and product pages used as sources do not name the issuing insurer for a given product. 29 24

Hardware and AI Customers Versus Hiscox Small-Business Classes

Risklytics markets to robotics, AV, hardware, AI software, drones and space. It says it drafts an application from your description and website for you to check. Hiscox’s consumer pages target eligible small businesses via zip-code quoting. Do not assume a robotics product company is inside Hiscox’s small-business underwriting criteria. 29 1

IP, Space and AI-Exclusion Review

Risklytics’ catalogue includes general liability, technology errors and omissions, cyber, directors and officers, property, inland marine, plus advertised intellectual-property (defense and enforcement) and space (pre-launch hardware) lines. It says it reads technology errors and omissions forms before binding because artificial-intelligence exclusions can change the result. Hiscox lists general liability, professional liability, cyber and a business owner’s policy. Those Hiscox small-business product names are not the intellectual-property-enforcement or launch-risk lines Risklytics advertises. 31 16

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • California producer path if the insured is in CA. 38 6

  • Issuing insurer and wholesale versus direct on any Risklytics proposal. 30 31

  • AI exclusions on tech E&O versus Hiscox professional liability. 35

Service Comparison

Hiscox vs Risklytics: documented services and availability

CriteriaHiscoxRisklytics
Business role

Hiscox is the brand name used by its U.S. insurance businesses. Website terms identify Hiscox Inc., a Delaware corporation headquartered in Atlanta, as a licensed insurance intermediary for admitted and surplus-lines business. About Hiscox US names Hiscox Insurance Company Inc. (NAIC 10200) as the affiliated insurer and Hiscox Inc. as its general agent. Broker-only pages are restricted to licensed market professionals; the small-business section is the consumer product path. 5,4

In California, Hiscox Inc. says it does business as Hiscox Insurance Agency and publishes producer license number 0F09668. Its current producer-license status remains independently unverified; the number is company-reported. 6,23,11,5

Risklytics describes itself as a commercial insurance brokerage. Its current legal disclosures identify Risklytics, Inc., doing business as Risklytics Insurance Services, as the producer arranging coverage rather than the insurer. 29,30

Customer focus

Hiscox markets U.S. small-business insurance to professional and service firms, including IT and technology consultants, and says it customizes policies for hundreds of professions. The reviewed pages describe startups as within Hiscox NOW appetite, subject to class, revenue and underwriting limits. 1,2,23

Risklytics markets to robotics, autonomous-vehicle, hardware, AI software and agent businesses, with additional industry pages for drones, space and defense contractors. Its emphasis is on explaining unfamiliar operations to insurance underwriters. 29,31

Coverage lines

Hiscox directly markets and offers online quotes for general liability, professional liability (errors and omissions), cyber security insurance and a business owner’s policy that combines general liability with commercial property. IT pages present those same lines for technology consultants rather than a separately named technology E&O policy. Website examples and coverage lists are illustrative; the issued policy controls. 16,7,8,9,10,2

Hired/non-owned auto and commercial crime are described as upgrades to a Hiscox business owner’s policy, not standalone Hiscox policies. Crime is not sold separately and is not available in all states. HNOA is tied to the BOP occurrence limit and does not replace commercial auto for vehicles the business owns or regularly operates. 20,21,10

Hiscox also markets partner coverage for workers’ compensation (Hartford Fire, generally requiring a Hiscox general-liability policy), commercial auto (GEICO referral and, separately, CyberPolicy), medical malpractice (NOW Insurance), short-term liability (Thimble/Markel), and CyberPolicy quotes for umbrella, directors and officers, and employment practices liability. Those pages are partner access paths, not proof that Hiscox Insurance Company Inc. issues the policy. 11,12,13,14,15,26

Risklytics says it places general liability, technology errors and omissions (E&O), cyber, directors and officers, commercial property, inland marine equipment, workers’ compensation, umbrella, intellectual property and space insurance. These are advertised placement categories, not a single package or a guarantee of availability. 31

Risklytics says it reads technology E&O forms before binding and warns that AI exclusions can affect the result. Its product page is a general description, not a specimen policy or confirmation that a particular AI failure is covered. 35

The advertised IP line discusses both infringement defense and enforcement of owned rights. The space line discusses pre-launch hardware, launch, in-orbit risks and related liability. Neither description establishes that every component is included in a quoted policy. 36,37,31

Availability

Hiscox says it is currently licensed to offer small-business insurance in 49 states and the District of Columbia, and that coverage is currently unavailable in Alaska. General liability and professional liability FAQs repeat the Alaska exclusion and say specialist brokers may be able to help if Hiscox does not sell online in an area. The 2026 Hiscox NOW appetite guide further says business owner’s policy is unavailable in Alaska, Florida, Kansas, Ohio, Rhode Island, Washington and West Virginia. Coverage remains subject to underwriting and class. 1,7,8,23,6

A Los Angeles office on the contact page does not establish California product eligibility. Broker-facing Hiscox C-Suite materials say Hiscox is no longer entertaining management-liability risks in the metro areas of California. Appetite tables also mark many contractor professional-liability classes as not available in California. Confirm state, class and channel on the actual quote. 22,26,23

Risklytics publishes agency NPN 22311838 and Massachusetts resident license 3004393145. Its state table, dated September 10, 2026, also lists Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas and Washington. These are company-reported identifiers, not independently verified licenses or product eligibility. 29

California is absent from the reviewed agency-license table. A California-authorized producer and product route remain unconfirmed in the reviewed disclosures; this does not establish that Risklytics cannot arrange California coverage. Confirm the responsible producer, authority and insurer for your operation before relying on a quote. 29,30,38

Claims assistance

Hiscox says customers can start a claim online, by phone or by mail. The claims center lists 1-866-424-8508 with weekday and weekend Eastern hours; a professional-liability FAQ separately tells current customers that 866-424-8508 is open 24 hours a day. Hiscox says it assigns a specialized claims professional, validates coverage and may appoint an attorney for covered liability claims. Policies placed with Hartford, GEICO, NOW Insurance, Markel/Thimble or CyberPolicy markets may use different notice instructions. These statements describe a reporting process, not independently measured claims outcomes. 17,27,7

A dedicated claims-reporting procedure or detailed broker claims-assistance commitment was not found in the reviewed terms, FAQ and contact page. The terms distinguish Risklytics from independent carriers and wholesalers and disclaim control over their claim handling. Ask for the policy’s reporting contact and the broker’s role after a loss. 30,33,34
