Coterie Insurance vs RiskCube

How Coterie’s agent-distributed small-business policies and RiskCube’s startup brokerage address a first office, professional work and enterprise contracts.

Introduction

A small technology business leasing its first office may face two different requests: premises insurance from the landlord and technology liability from a customer. Coterie supplies small-business programs through agents, with BOP, general liability and miscellaneous professional liability at its core. RiskCube is a brokerage marketing startup technology, cyber and management coverages. The decision is which route addresses each request, not whether the longer catalogue automatically constitutes a better package. 1 2 27 28

Key Differences Between Coterie Insurance and RiskCube

The Agent and the Program Are Separate Choices

A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie's dashboard with the client's business name and address, selects the principal industry, confirms or edits prefilled details, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Business owners who do not already have an agent can use Coterie's agent finder. 5,6,2

RiskCube describes one digital intake followed by AI-assisted and broker-reviewed quote comparison and digital purchase. The public application URL reviewed displayed a contact form rather than a complete underwriting flow. 24,34

Coterie is a program an agent can use, whereas RiskCube is the brokerage a business engages. These can occupy different positions in an insurance arrangement. The reviewed public materials do not establish a RiskCube–Coterie distribution relationship, so do not assume that engaging one provides access to the other. Ask who will own the advice and which programs that broker can actually quote. 6 27

An Office Package Does Not Resolve a Software Contract

Coterie's BOP combines property and liability, while its MPL is a claims-made policy for listed service professions. RiskCube separately markets technology E&O and directors and officers coverage. A consulting activity eligible for miscellaneous professional liability is not automatically the same risk as a software product with performance obligations; give both routes the actual work description rather than choosing by the shared E&O abbreviation. 4 14 30 28

Coterie also markets cyber and employment-practices endorsements, subject to the underlying product and eligibility. Their absence as standalone rows in the coverage table does not mean no such protection can be added. Compare the endorsement's limits and trigger with the separate coverage offered in a RiskCube proposal. Coterie's claims page expressly excludes workers' compensation and automobile policies from its writing; any agent-provided solution for those lines would need a separate route. 12 11 28

Locations and Servicing Need an Account-Level Answer

Coterie's policyholder FAQ says each business location must have its own policy rather than listing several operating addresses on one Coterie policy. 10

For a business adding a second office, that creates a specific administration question about separate policies and renewal dates. RiskCube describes policy management and certificate generation, but those functions do not specify how an insurer will schedule locations. Ask for the proposed location schedule before treating either dashboard as evidence that the expansion is insured. 24 27

Coterie's broad nationwide statements are qualified by product guides and underwriting; its MPL guide does not support every-state availability. RiskCube lists company-reported California and Delaware P&C authority, without proving product eligibility for every applicant. California operations should be checked against the specific policy and activity, not against a general national marketing statement. 14 7 25

Separate Program Charges from Brokerage Charges

Coterie's terms disclose policy and installment charges and a possible risk-program fee. RiskCube's disclosure permits agreed service fees despite fee-free marketing. These charges occur at different points in the transaction: ask the agent or broker for the complete invoice, including anything outside the program premium. The public disclosures do not support a cost ranking between the two routes. 8 26 29

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Which listed profession or business class matches the actual consulting, software and premises exposures? Request the proposed form, not just an E&O label. 14 30
  • Is cyber an endorsement or a separate policy, and what limit applies to the customer's required event? 15 28
  • Who handles a second location, coverage questions and certificate changes, and which insurer must approve them? 10 27
  • What program fees, producer charges and renewal permissions accompany the proposal? 8 26

Service Comparison

Coterie Insurance vs RiskCube: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoterie InsuranceRiskCube
Business role

Coterie Insurance is a managing general agency and digital small-business insurance platform built primarily for licensed agents, brokers and distribution partners. It is not a direct-to-consumer insurance marketplace; a business owner is directed to work with an agent. 1,6,19

Coterie Applications, Inc. provides the platform under the website terms. Florida's current corporate record lists it as the member of Coterie Insurance Agency, LLC, the agency named in Coterie's footer; Massachusetts separately lists the agency with an active property-and-casualty producer license through December 28, 2026. 8,1,22,23

Coterie's website lists multiple investors, and Allianz X records Coterie as a current direct investment after leading a 2025 Series C round. The reviewed sources do not establish an acquisition, a controlling parent or Coterie's complete current ownership table. 1,19,20,22

RiskCube offers startup insurance brokerage through RiskCube Insurance Services, LLC. Its parent, RiskCube, Inc., supplies the platform and operational support; third-party insurers issue coverage. 27,26

Application process

A licensed agent starts a quote in Coterie's dashboard with the client's business name and address, selects the principal industry, confirms or edits prefilled details, customizes coverage and pays to bind an eligible policy. Business owners who do not already have an agent can use Coterie's agent finder. 5,6,2

Coterie advertises bindable quotes in under two minutes for eligible standard risks. Its terms qualify that claim: a quote or estimate is not an insurance contract, and coverage remains subject to underwriting approval, eligibility verification and formal policy issuance. 6,8

RiskCube describes one digital intake followed by AI-assisted and broker-reviewed quote comparison and digital purchase. The public application URL reviewed displayed a contact form rather than a complete underwriting flow. 24,34

For technology E&O, RiskCube asks for product, customer, revenue and contract details, plus prior claims or known incidents. It qualifies its advertised quote timing by risk profile and underwriting complexity. 30

RiskCube’s terms say quotes are not binders: written confirmation from the insurer or its authorized representative and required conditions must be satisfied before coverage is bound. 27

Availability

Coterie says BOP and general liability are admitted products across all 50 states. That is not account-level availability: its terms make every product subject to jurisdiction, business class, underwriting and formal issuance, and temporary catastrophe moratoriums can stop new BOP binding in specified areas. 7,8,18

Coterie's broad broker page says BOP, general liability and professional liability are admitted in all 50 states, but its December 2025 MPL guide says MPL is unavailable in DC, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, North Dakota and Virginia. A newer quick-start page narrows the statement to BOP and general liability in all 50 states and MPL in most states. Use the product guide and a current quote for MPL eligibility. 5,7,14

As of September 11, 2026, Coterie says eligible BOP risks 3 to 26 miles from the coast can be considered in Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, generally with up to $250,000 of business personal property and no building coverage in the coastal zone. Risks closer than 3 miles remain ineligible under this expansion, and Florida building coverage is unavailable statewide. 17,18

RiskCube’s license disclosure lists RiskCube Insurance Services, LLC with California resident property-and-casualty license 6017028, Delaware license 3004000392 and NPN 21694336. These are company-reported identifiers, not independently verified license status. Product eligibility, insurer and any surplus-lines placement route still require confirmation for a California quote. 25,27

Servicing and renewals

Policyholders can use My Policy Center, request policy changes, generate certificates and start a claim online. Coterie tells policyholders to use their agent or broker first for coverage questions and provides public sample BOP, general liability and professional liability forms for orientation. 10,8

Coterie's policyholder FAQ says each business location must have its own policy rather than listing several operating addresses on one Coterie policy. 10

Unless a policy says otherwise, Coterie's terms describe a 12-month policy that may renew automatically. Renewal charges may use the payment method on file, and the policyholder can contact Coterie or use account tools to change renewal preferences. 8

RiskCube describes platform access for policy management, certificate generation and renewal notifications. A certificate does not change coverage under its terms. 24,27

RiskCube says it reviews vendor insurance requirements and checks requested endorsements, including additional insured and waiver-of-subrogation language. Its terms warn that AI-assisted output can be incomplete or inaccurate. 29,27

Fees and compensation

Coterie's terms say new and renewal policies have a one-time policy fee whose amount varies, successful installments carry a $7 fee, late fees can be up to $10 and insufficient-funds fees up to $35. Fees vary by state and line, can be nonrefundable, and additional charges must be disclosed before bind or renewal. 8

A Coterie policy can include a separate Manage My Risk Program fee that the terms call fully earned on payment and nonrefundable after midterm cancellation. The terms say participation, or an accepted outside risk program, affects the insurance premium but do not publish the program fee amount. 8

Coterie's privacy policy says it may pay commissions to certain agents through a third-party processor. The reviewed public sources do not state the commission rate or whether additional producer compensation applies to a particular buyer's policy. 9,8

RiskCube’s homepage and FAQ advertise no added broker fees, but its compensation disclosure allows agreed service fees and payment-processing charges. It also describes insurer or intermediary commissions and possible performance incentives. The scope of the fee-free claim needs written clarification for the requested services. 24,29,26
