Coalition vs ERGO NEXT Insurance

Compare ERGO NEXT’s cyber add-on and small-business policies with Coalition’s combined cyber and Tech E&O.

Introduction

A bootstrapped business may start with an online general-liability purchase, then encounter a customer asking for technology E&O and cyber. ERGO NEXT markets cyber as an addition to general or professional liability; Coalition explicitly offers combined cyber and Tech E&O. The decision is whether the proposed coverage addresses the company’s technology work, not simply whether the checkout includes a cyber option. 33 1

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Coalition Shines

  • Combines Tech E&O and cyber coverage for technology businesses. 1

Where ERGO NEXT Insurance Shines

  • Small businesses can quote and buy supported policies online, with licensed advisors also available. 41,25,42
  • An online account supports policy documents, certificates, additional-insured requests and supported policy changes; some changes need staff assistance. 43,22,42

Key Differences Between Coalition and ERGO NEXT Insurance

The Base Policy Shapes the Purchase

ERGO NEXT’s direct catalogue includes general liability, property, BOP, professional liability and workers’ compensation. Its cyber offering depends on an eligible base policy. Coalition’s technology offering starts from digital-risk coverage through an appointed broker. Ask what must be bought together and whether a customer’s software-liability requirement is addressed by the selected form. The catalogue’s professional E&O label does not itself establish technology coverage. 25 33 27 13

Parent Ownership and Insurer Identity Are Different

NEXT Insurance adopted the ERGO NEXT Insurance brand on January 15, 2026. Munich Re reports that it completed the full acquisition of Next Insurance in July 2025 and increased its ownership to 100%; ERGO is Munich Re’s primary-insurance business. 20,21

ERGO NEXT distinguishes affiliated insurers, agencies and partner routes; its commercial-auto page sends buyers to Progressive. Coalition identifies its admitted cyber insurer separately from non-admitted partners. A company buying several lines should expect to check the legal insurer and service channel on each, even where one brand coordinates the purchase. 23 31 3

Online Access Does Not Set Every Service Deadline

ERGO NEXT describes online certificates and supported policy changes, with some changes requiring staff handling. Its help center separates an always-available AI assistant from weekday human experts. Coalition’s monitoring and claims-triage descriptions concern different functions. Ask for the urgent cyber incident contact rather than assuming an account assistant is the incident-response channel. 43 42 9

What to Confirm in Quotes

Request the cyber add-on and base-policy wording, the treatment of technology-service errors and current eligibility for your California business class. Obtain the precise binding confirmation: ERGO NEXT’s terms say payment alone does not bind an unapproved application. For both routes, establish when requested contract-related endorsements take effect. 22 40 12

Service Comparison

Coalition vs ERGO NEXT Insurance: documented services and availability

CriteriaCoalitionERGO NEXT Insurance
Business role

Coalition combines commercial insurance offerings with cyber risk-management services. In the United States, Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc. (CIS) is the disclosed insurance producer and surplus lines broker; the issuing insurer is responsible for policy obligations. 2,7

Coalition lists CIS’s California producer and surplus lines license as 0L76155. This is a company disclosure; current license status has not been independently checked with the California regulator. 2

Coalition’s legal page identifies Coalition Incident Response, Inc., doing business as Coalition Security, or independent third parties as security-service providers. Coalition Security does not provide insurance. 2

NEXT Insurance adopted the ERGO NEXT Insurance brand on January 15, 2026. Munich Re reports that it completed the full acquisition of Next Insurance in July 2025 and increased its ownership to 100%; ERGO is Munich Re’s primary-insurance business. 20,21

The ERGO NEXT terms group Next Insurance, Inc. with Next Insurance US Company, Next First Insurance Agency, Inc., Next Claims Management, Inc. and AP Intego Insurance Group, LLC. The terms describe ERGO NEXT as an agent representing insurance companies, while the license disclosure distinguishes agency subsidiaries from the affiliated insurer. 22,23

Application process

Coalition directs buyers to an appointed insurance broker and offers help finding access if their broker does not offer Coalition. It describes underwriting that considers industry, finances, operations and security posture. 13

Coalition’s broker instructions describe adding Tech E&O during the cyber quote process, supplying a product or service description and answering contract-related questions. Some quotes require review before a price is released. 12

The public quote flow starts with industry and state, then shows stages for coverage, application, quote and purchase. ERGO NEXT says supported policies can be quoted and bought online; licensed advisors are also available. 41,25,42

A complete application and carrier underwriting approval are required. The terms say a premium payment does not bind coverage until the carrier approves the application, and a payment is refunded if the carrier declines it. 22,26

Availability

Coalition states that Executive Risks is available to private and nonprofit U.S. organizations in all states and Washington, D.C., with up to $500 million in assets, 1,000 employees and $500 million in plan assets, subject to limitations. 5

Coalition’s help center states that admitted and surplus cyber policies are offered in all 50 states and D.C., including California. Its product comparison lists Tech E&O and MPL under surplus coverage. This documents a California cyber placement route, but does not establish approval or the exact Tech E&O form for a particular applicant. 10,11

ERGO NEXT publishes agency licenses across the states and Washington, D.C., but its terms say products are sold only in a limited number of states, availability and coverage vary by state, and underwriting approval is required. A producer-license list therefore does not establish that a particular product is available for a buyer’s profession and location. 23,22,40

Servicing and renewals

Coalition describes Control policyholder features at no additional cost, including attack-surface monitoring, vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability alerts and guidance. Login Security requires connecting a Microsoft or Google environment. Additional security products are promoted separately. 8

Coalition says cyber renewals begin 90 days before expiration and follow Automatic, Express or Standard paths based on the account. Express renewals require responses; Standard renewals require a bind order and updated signed application, with additional underwriting conditions for some accounts. Automatic renewal does not guarantee an unchanged premium. 15

Policyholders can use the online account to access electronic policy documents, update supported policy and payment details, create certificates, add additional insureds and request cancellation. Some changes require staff handling; the account FAQ says revised documents can take seven to ten business days in those cases. 43,22,42

The help center advertises a 24/7 AI assistant and U.S.-based insurance experts on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. The reviewed sources do not promise licensed human support around the clock. 42

A direct customer can request cancellation through the online account. ERGO NEXT says it stops future monthly payments and the account FAQ describes a prorated premium refund, but separately earned service or card fees are generally nonrefundable and the terms allow a cancellation fee where applicable. 43,22
