Beazley vs USI Insurance Services

How Beazley’s specialty insurer packages differ from USI’s role as a broker that might place Beazley or other markets.

Introduction

Beazley Media Tech or ExecuGuard is a policy-form conversation. USI is a placement conversation. Wanting Beazley paper still requires a broker to submit, and to place lines Beazley is not quoting on that package. Beazley’s catalogue is not a full US commercial program, and USI’s Technology list is not Beazley wording. 1 30

Where Each Provider Shines

Where Beazley Shines

  • Technology E&O, media and cyber in one MediaTech form 1
  • Execuguard can separate or share executive-risk limits 10

Where USI Insurance Services Shines

  • USI’s Technology practice says it works with software, hardware and related companies from early seed stage through IPO. 22,30,41
  • USI says it is customarily paid insurer commissions and may receive additional contingent compensation, with details available on request. 28

Key Differences Between Beazley and USI

Underwriter Versus Producer

Beazley’s US terms and legal pages identify how Beazley companies write business. USI obtains contracts from insurers. 5 28

Package Design

Beazley publishes package constructions (tech/digital, executive, crime, transaction, health) and qualifies sample forms. USI publishes a brokerage menu (cargo, PrivaSafe, directors and officers). Compare specimen to specimen once a USI proposal names a market. 1 30

California Access

Both firms leave important California routing questions for the quote. Do not infer surplus-lines details from a London specialty brand or from a USI office map. 5 42

Application Path

Beazley is reached through brokers. Emailing USI is an inquiry to a producer; it is not a Beazley bind, and it does not mean USI will submit to Beazley unless the proposal says so. 2 25

Claims-Made and Notice

Beazley specialty is often claims-made; notice conditions are strict. USI’s kit says involve the USI team on professional and cyber. If Beazley is the issuer, the Beazley notice clause controls regardless of USI’s kit date. 8 39

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Whether USI will submit Media Tech / ExecuGuard or a different market. 10 35
  • Claims-made retro date and notice email/address on the actual form. 8
  • Remaining program (workers’ compensation, property, benefits) outside Beazley packages. 29
  • Fees: Beazley’s US terms versus USI commissions. 6 28

Service Comparison

Beazley vs USI: documented services and availability

CriteriaBeazleyUSI Insurance Services
Business role

Beazley is a specialty insurance group operating through insurance companies and underwriting businesses. Its US disclosures distinguish the insurance entities from Beazley USA Services, Inc., which reports doing business in California as Beazley Insurance Services under license 0G55497. This is a company disclosure, not an independently verified license record. 5,6,7

USI describes itself as a U.S. insurance brokerage and consulting firm that arranges property and casualty, employee benefits, personal risk, program, and retirement solutions. The reviewed official pages do not identify USI as the insurer that issues commercial policies. 22,21,28,41

USI’s commissions page states that, as a licensed insurance producer, it may advise on insurance contracts, sell insurance, and obtain coverages for clients. Privacy and staff materials identify the operating company as USI Insurance Services LLC. Current California producer-license status remains independently unverified. 28,27,42

On 31 August 2026, Aon plc announced a definitive agreement to acquire USI from KKR and other shareholders for a $17.0 billion purchase price, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 subject to customary conditions including regulatory approvals. Aon stated that Aon and USI will continue to operate independently until the closing date. The reviewed announcement does not establish that the transaction has closed. 41

Coverage lines

MediaTech combines technology and professional errors and omissions, media liability and cyber coverage. Beazley lists breach response, business interruption, dependent business interruption, extortion, data recovery and eCrime protections, with limits up to $5 million; the issued policy determines the cover purchased. 1

The linked MediaTech sample form is dated February 2019. It excludes patent infringement and trade-secret misappropriation related to technology or other products, and contains contractual-liability and retroactive-date restrictions. The sample is not evidence of the wording that will be offered today. 3,5

Execuguard offers private-company directors and officers, employment practices and fiduciary liability, with separate or shared limits across selected coverages. Beazley advertises both admitted and non-admitted options; state and account eligibility still need confirmation. 10

Beazley offers Commercial Crime for commercial companies and Financial Fidelity Bonds for financial institutions. Its crime page describes fraudulent-instruction coverage subject to out-of-band authentication, with possible removal of that condition for documented controls and an additional premium. 11

Virtual Care lists healthcare professional liability, technology liability, cyber, media, general liability and products/completed operations for digital-health businesses. Life Sciences offers product, professional and general liability through BioSecure, NutraGuard and WellTech forms for different life-sciences exposures. 13,14

North American Commercial Property targets mid-sized and large commercial properties on an excess and surplus lines basis. Product Recall – Manufacturing Risk and Response separately addresses consumer goods, component parts and consumables, including product-removal and related income-loss costs. 15,16

BeazleyOne Environmental combines general, professional and contractors’ pollution liability for environmental-service firms, and lists hired and non-owned auto. US Marine offers hull and marine liability on primary and excess bases; this does not establish general corporate umbrella availability. 17,18

Beazley offers representations and warranties coverage for acquisitions. Its US Specialty Programs business works through managing general agents, program administrators and specialized brokers on professional, general, product, manufacturers’ E&O, cyber and allied-medical liability programs. 12,19

The posted Digital Media Tech application says liability coverage is claims-made and reported: the claim must be made and reported within the applicable policy terms. It also warns that claims expenses reduce the liability limit and are subject to retentions. 2

USI’s Technology practice lists insurance placement for property; business income and contingent business income; worldwide cargo and stock; errors and omissions; product liability; directors and officers liability; network security / USI PrivaSafe; and international. Those labels describe brokerage services. Limits, exclusions, insurer, and whether a given startup qualifies remain in a quote and policy. 30,35

USI’s commercial property and casualty pages describe advice and placement on workers’ compensation, property, general liability, auto liability, umbrella/excess, executive and professional risks, cyber, environmental, product liability, and related claims and risk-control services. Other industry pages add employment practices, crime, fiduciary, professional E&O, kidnap and ransom, representations and warranties, medical professional (malpractice) liability, and required bonding in the healthcare practice. Availability and wording vary by client, insurer, and jurisdiction. 29,31,32,33,37

USI’s employee-benefits practice describes consulting to design, price, and administer employer benefit programs, including underwriting analytics, HR administration support, population health, compliance/healthcare reform guidance, pharmacy and ancillary consulting. The private-equity practice separately lists employee health and welfare insurance services after a transaction. These pages describe consulting and placement services, not a specific insured health plan or carrier. 34,32

Application process

Beazley describes MediaTech placement through third-party platforms or email. Its posted application requests the business’s services and products, employee count, US and non-US revenues, financial statements and expected business changes. A submitted application does not establish acceptance or an effective policy. 1,2

USI does not publish a self-serve commercial quote flow on the reviewed pages. Technology and P&C inquiries are directed to pcinquiries@usi.com or a local office. The contact page includes a website message box that USI warns is not secured in transit and should not be used for sensitive information. Small- and medium-sized management-liability inquiries are also directed to Select.Business@usi.com. No public binding timetable or online eligibility tool was found. 30,29,25,37

Availability

The reviewed MediaTech product page, application and US legal disclosures do not establish a current California-specific MediaTech form, admitted or surplus-lines route, or applicant eligibility. A California trade-name and license disclosure alone does not answer those product questions. 1,2,5,6

Beazley says its M&A team can underwrite and place transactions in all 50 US states. That company-reported statement includes California for M&A, but does not establish MediaTech availability or acceptance of a particular transaction. 12

USI states that it is headquartered at 100 Summit Lake Drive, Suite 400, Valhalla, New York, with more than 10,000 professionals across over 200 U.S. offices, and that it serves every state. That is a company description of its office network and service footprint. It does not, by itself, establish that a particular commercial product is admitted, surplus-lines, or otherwise available in California or any other named state. 24,22,25,21

A USI Insurance Services LLC staff biography lists a San Francisco office and prints CA DOI License # 0G11911. The reviewed usi.com practice pages do not state which commercial products are available to California-domiciled startups, whether placements are admitted or surplus lines, or which licensed entity would appear on a California policy. Current California producer-license status remains independently unverified. A California office address is not treated as product eligibility. 42,30,29,24

Claims assistance

Beazley directs customers to check their policy’s notification instructions first. Its website provides a notice-of-loss form and a US claims email route. The existence of these channels does not establish claims-handling quality or a promise that a loss is covered. 8

USI’s contact page tells people seeking claims assistance to contact the appropriate USI office. A May 2021 claims kit instructs clients to report property, workers’ compensation, general liability, and commercial auto claims to the insurance company, and to involve the USI account team or claims consultant for environmental, executive/management liability, professional liability/E&O, and cyber. Natural-disaster guidance likewise points commercial P&C clients to their claims representative or client service team. The materials describe reporting assistance, not claims-handling quality or authority to settle. 25,39,40,29
