At-Bay vs USI Insurance Services

Compare At-Bay’s cyber and technology products with USI’s brokerage, PrivaSafe offering and risk-control services.

Introduction

A CFO deciding how much to spend on insurance and risk reduction needs to distinguish the policy from the surrounding services. At-Bay describes policy-linked security services alongside cyber and technology coverage. USI describes PrivaSafe cyber placement and wider risk-control services. Compare the insured terms first, then ask what operational work each service budget buys. 7 1 28 31

Key Differences Between at-Bay and USI

A Brokerage Product Name Does Not Identify the Issuer

USI’s PrivaSafe materials describe manuscript cyber coverage without establishing the insurer for a particular proposal. At-Bay’s historical carrier transition similarly cannot identify every current offer. Request the actual forms and legal insurers before comparing the scope of business interruption, incident costs or professional liability. 28 11 2

Security Operations and Risk Consulting Need Separate Deliverables

At-Bay distinguishes Stance from separately purchased MDR. USI describes analytics through USI ONE and risk-control support through PATH. Those are different service descriptions, not equivalent subscriptions or evidence of lower losses. Ask for named deliverables, staff responsibilities and charges rather than using either program name as a proxy for results. 7 16 31

Pending Ownership Change Calls for a Continuity Question

The reviewed USI record reports Aon’s acquisition announcement as pending, with expected closing in the fourth quarter of 2026. It does not establish completed ownership. Ask which entity and team will service the proposed term and how any later changes would be communicated; do not assume a combined platform already exists. 34

What to Confirm in Quotes

Request separate policy and advisory cost schedules, including commissions and additional remuneration. Confirm California placement and current claims-notice contacts: USI’s older claims-kit evidence should not be treated as a current universal procedure. Send sensitive submission material through an agreed secure route rather than the general inquiry box. 21 32 18

Service Comparison

At-Bay vs USI Insurance Services Insurance: documented services and availability

CriteriaAt-BayUSI Insurance Services
Business role

At-Bay offers cyber, technology errors and omissions (Tech E&O), and miscellaneous professional liability insurance. Its disclosed producer, At-Bay Insurance Services LLC, is a property and casualty agency and surplus lines broker; its website says coverage is underwritten by non-admitted insurers. 1,5

USI describes itself as a U.S. insurance brokerage and consulting firm that arranges property and casualty, employee benefits, personal risk, program, and retirement solutions. The reviewed official pages do not identify USI as the insurer that issues commercial policies. 15,14,21,34

USI’s commissions page states that, as a licensed insurance producer, it may advise on insurance contracts, sell insurance, and obtain coverages for clients. Privacy and staff materials identify the operating company as USI Insurance Services LLC. Current California producer-license status remains independently unverified. 21,20,35

On 31 August 2026, Aon plc announced a definitive agreement to acquire USI from KKR and other shareholders for a $17.0 billion purchase price, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 subject to customary conditions including regulatory approvals. Aon stated that Aon and USI will continue to operate independently until the closing date. The reviewed announcement does not establish that the transaction has closed. 34

Application process

At-Bay describes a broker workflow of completing an application, adjusting limits and retentions, reviewing documents, selecting an effective date, and satisfying contingencies and signature requirements before binding. Brokers can also email submissions to underwriting. An online quote is not itself bound coverage. 6,4

USI does not publish a self-serve commercial quote flow on the reviewed pages. Technology and P&C inquiries are directed to pcinquiries@usi.com or a local office. The contact page includes a website message box that USI warns is not secured in transit and should not be used for sensitive information. Small- and medium-sized management-liability inquiries are also directed to Select.Business@usi.com. No public binding timetable or online eligibility tool was found. 23,22,18,30

Servicing and renewals

At-Bay Stance offers vulnerability monitoring, fraud defense, employee security training and access to cyber advisors. Access is tied to the policy’s Embedded Security Fee and Endorsement; optional managed detection and response (MDR) is a separate purchase from At-Bay Security, LLC. 7

At-Bay markets Stance MDR for endpoints and email, plus managed extended detection and response (MXDR) spanning endpoint, email, identity and cloud. It says MDR is optional for insurance and available beyond its policyholders. Coverage enhancements and premium credits have qualifying conditions. 7

At-Bay describes broker dashboard access to active policies and renewals, with rapid and manual renewal paths. Its platform page says rapid renewals bind automatically 15 days before expiry; buyers should confirm enrollment, terms and change deadlines with their broker. 6

USI describes USI ONE as a proprietary consultative process that combines Omni analytics, a national network of specialists, and an enterprise planning process. Technology and P&C pages say clients receive tailored recommendations aimed at total cost of risk. Those are company descriptions of advisory method, not independently verified service outcomes. 16,23,22

USI PATH is described as a proprietary risk-control platform that presents industry loss drivers, improvement areas by coverage line, and curated vendor solutions with preferred pricing and ROI projections. The homepage also markets PATH as guiding clients through risk control from identifying sources of loss to targeting solutions. Performance, ROI, and premium-reduction claims on those pages are company-reported. 31,14

Fees and compensation

Stance access uses an Embedded Security Fee and Endorsement, while MDR is separately purchased. Security costs should be distinguished from the insurance premium and any broker charges. 7

Commission rates, broker compensation arrangements and a complete placement-fee schedule were not disclosed in the reviewed product, platform and US terms pages. This does not establish that commissions or fees are absent; request an itemized quote and compensation disclosure. 2,6,10

Unless otherwise negotiated, USI says compensation for placing coverage is customarily a commission calculated as a percentage of premium and paid by the insurer. It may also receive additional monetary and non-monetary compensation from insurers or intermediaries (including affiliates), which can be contingent on volume, profitability, or other factors, and some agreements include growth or distribution incentives. Clients may request the nature and source of expected compensation, including on alternative quotes. Standard commission percentages and fee schedules for startup accounts are not published. 21
