Armilla vs
Coalition
Compare model-focused AI protection with AI losses addressed through Coalition’s cyber and technology insurance agreements.
Introduction
An AI incident is not automatically a cyber incident. A fraudulent deepfake, a leak of private data and an inaccurate customer-facing model output may engage different policy agreements. Coalition explains AI coverage through its cyber policy and technology E&O, with a separate Deepfake Response endorsement. Armilla markets dedicated AI liability and a distinct performance warranty. Compare the particular event and loss, not the shared use of “AI.” 26 2

Key Differences Between Armilla and Coalition
Follow the Insuring Agreement Behind the AI Claim
Coalition maps AI-related losses to existing agreements, including media liability and Tech E&O for eligible businesses. That does not establish unrestricted liability for every AI product. Armilla’s product brief lists examples such as model errors, hallucinations and agent behavior, but those examples also require the issued wording. For a customer alleging financial loss from an output, ask both proposals to identify the covered service, claim trigger and applicable exclusions. 26 3
Armilla’s warranty adds another category: an agreed performance remedy rather than liability insurance. Coalition’s AI coverage explanation does not establish a model-performance warranty. If procurement asks for guaranteed accuracy, establish whether it wants insurance evidence or an enforceable commercial commitment before buying either. 2 4 26
Security Monitoring and Model Testing Answer Different Questions
Coalition Control describes attack-surface and vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability alerts and remediation guidance; some functions require connecting an environment. Armilla assesses performance, fairness, security and robustness of AI systems. Monitoring exposed infrastructure can support a cyber program, while a model assessment can inform an AI underwriting discussion. Neither service description proves the other task has been completed. 16 5
The service contract matters too. Coalition identifies a separate security entity that does not provide insurance, and additional security products are promoted separately. Armilla’s assessment and warranty should also be identified distinctly from the insurance policy in the proposal. 10 16 2
California Cyber Access Does Not Settle Every AI Placement
Coalition documents all-state admitted and surplus cyber routes and lists Tech E&O under surplus coverage. It identifies its own insurer for admitted cyber, but that does not establish the carrier for every California Tech E&O quote. Armilla’s reviewed materials leave its California AI route unresolved. The comparison therefore needs actual underwriting responses, not an assumption that the two brands offer identical local access. 18 19 11 1
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Have the broker map your output-error, deepfake and data-loss scenarios to specific agreements and endorsements, with limits and retentions. 26 3
- Separate included monitoring, optional security purchases, assessment fees and any warranty remedy. 16 5 7
- Confirm the California insurer and designate notice recipients if one event produces both cyber and AI liability claims. Coalition describes a shared cyber/Tech E&O claims team; Armilla’s actual policy notice instructions still need review. 9 2
Service Comparison
Armilla vs Coalition: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Armilla | Coalition |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Armilla markets AI liability insurance, performance warranties and model assessments. It describes its insurance operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with underwriting responsibilities, and names Armilla Insurance Services as a Lloyd’s coverholder. These descriptions do not make Armilla the risk-bearing insurer. 3,1,6 Florida’s corporate registry lists Armilla Insurance Services Inc., a Delaware corporation. This establishes a corporate identity, not an insurance license or authority to place a California risk. 8 | Coalition combines commercial insurance offerings with cyber risk-management services. In the United States, Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc. (CIS) is the disclosed insurance producer and surplus lines broker; the issuing insurer is responsible for policy obligations. 10,15 Coalition lists CIS’s California producer and surplus lines license as 0L76155. This is a company disclosure; current license status has not been independently checked with the California regulator. 10 Coalition’s legal page identifies Coalition Incident Response, Inc., doing business as Coalition Security, or independent third parties as security-service providers. Coalition Security does not provide insurance. 10 |
| Application process | Armilla’s insurance FAQ says to begin with an AI risk assessment, followed by a tailored insurance or warranty plan. The site directs buyers to contact its team; coverage requires written confirmation and completion of underwriting requirements. 2,1 | Coalition directs buyers to an appointed insurance broker and offers help finding access if their broker does not offer Coalition. It describes underwriting that considers industry, finances, operations and security posture. 21 Coalition’s broker instructions describe adding Tech E&O during the cyber quote process, supplying a product or service description and answering contract-related questions. Some quotes require review before a price is released. 20 |
| Servicing and renewals | Armilla Verified evaluates model performance, fairness, security and robustness. Armilla describes scoping, testing, remediation support and an internal report, with a badge conditional on meeting benchmarks. Optional monitoring and retesting are offered as models change. 5 The reviewed assessment and insurance pages do not disclose insurance renewal procedures or whether ongoing model monitoring is included in the premium. Optional assessment support should be priced and scoped separately in the proposal. 5,2 | Coalition describes Control policyholder features at no additional cost, including attack-surface monitoring, vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability alerts and guidance. Login Security requires connecting a Microsoft or Google environment. Additional security products are promoted separately. 16 Coalition says cyber renewals begin 90 days before expiration and follow Automatic, Express or Standard paths based on the account. Express renewals require responses; Standard renewals require a bind order and updated signed application, with additional underwriting conditions for some accounts. Automatic renewal does not guarantee an unchanged premium. 23 |
| Claims assistance | Armilla describes liability claims reported during the policy period, subject to limits and exclusions. Its homepage offers incident coordination, but the reviewed pages do not name a claims administrator or set out a complete claim-notification procedure. No claims-handling quality has been established. 2,1 | Coalition describes in-house cyber claims triage and assistance attempting to recover stolen funds. Its Tech E&O page says the same claims team manages cyber and Tech E&O claims. These service descriptions do not establish response quality or payment of a particular loss. 17,9 |
