What Is Inland Marine Insurance?
Inland marine is specialized property insurance for selected property exposures, often equipment used at different sites or goods in transit. The insured property and covered causes of loss depend on the form.
The name describes a broad commercial property category, not just boats or shipping. The California Department of Insurance describes inland marine as specialized property coverage and lists separate forms such as equipment floaters, installation floaters, motor truck cargo, trip transit, accounts receivable, and valuable papers. Those are different coverages; buying one does not automatically buy the others.
A contractors’ equipment form is one example: the cited AAIS form covers listed or scheduled equipment subject to its terms. Check the quote and declarations for the exact property class, locations or transit exposure, limits, deductible, valuation, exclusions, and any schedule requirements. The sample form is illustrative; it does not establish what another insurer will offer.
