Layr vs Newfront

Compare Layr’s administration for an existing brokerage with Newfront’s contract review, vendor-certificate tracking and claims advocacy.

Introduction

Layr provides sales and service infrastructure to small-commercial brokerages, allowing the brokerage to retain its client appointment and brand. Newfront is a brokerage that combines insurance placement with advice and tools for contracts, vendor insurance and claims. The distinction is between supporting the current broker’s operation and engaging Newfront for placement and its documented advisory services. 2 6 22 46 45

For a facilities business beginning to subcontract more jobs, the question is which administrative burden is growing: managing its own policies or checking the insurance required from others. Layr’s portal centers on the brokerage’s policyholders. Newfront’s Partner Management tool specifically tracks vendor certificates and compliance. Those tasks can coexist, but a customer portal does not make them identical. 5 45

Key Differences Between Layr and Newfront

Policyholder Certificates and Vendor Tracking

Layr describes a dashboard showing policyholder renewals, claim activity and payments, with licensed support and a branded customer experience. Its company materials also describe policy documents and certificates. For the facilities business, that is relevant to getting its own insurance information to a landlord or customer and keeping its current agent involved. Agree which routine requests the Layr team handles and which coverage decisions return to the broker. 5 11 2

Newfront’s Partner Management tool works in the other direction: collecting and organizing vendors’ certificates, tracking expirations, recording activity and following up. Newfront says it is included in client service agreements at no extra cost. If the facilities business hires several subcontractors, ask for a demonstration using its actual document requirements and identify who decides whether the vendor’s evidence is acceptable. Automated tracking does not by itself establish that the subcontractor’s policy meets every contractual obligation. 45 17

This also affects a future change of broker. Layr explicitly describes the existing brokerage remaining broker of record. Newfront’s terms say access to some services may depend on appointing it as broker of record. Before moving the account to obtain a tool, establish which appointment is required, which records can be transferred and who will handle open certificate or endorsement requests during the handover. 2 17

Contract Review and Policy Changes

Newfront’s contract-review tool highlights insurance requirements, compares them with current policies and gives citations to the relevant clauses. It also notifies the Newfront team so advisors can develop recommendations. For the facilities business, ask the team to separate obligations in the customer agreement from those it wants its subcontractors to accept. This creates a specific review assignment rather than a general request for more liability coverage. 46

Layr’s application provides explanations from licensed individuals, and its FAQ says it can add products and work with a brokerage’s existing carriers. A Layr-backed broker can therefore be asked to take the same contract and identify the placement or policy change needed. The published platform description does not establish an equivalent automated contract-review feature, but neither does it establish that the retained broker cannot perform the review. 4 6 2

Newfront’s own terms make the next step explicit: changes requested through Navigator remain preliminary until the carrier approves them and supplies written confirmation. For either arrangement, request the actual endorsement and effective date when a contract requires new insured parties or different terms. A tool finding, a submitted change request and a certificate are different stages of that work. 17 46 5

Placement Access and Issuing Insurers

Layr’s current new-business illustration shows common small-commercial categories, including general liability, property, auto and workers’ compensation. Its FAQ describes national carriers, wholesale access and use of the customer brokerage’s carriers. Newfront’s business service describes assembling industry expertise, reviewing exposures and presenting the business to underwriters. Give both the same subcontracting activities, contracts and locations before comparing the proposed insurers or limits. 4 6 22

A larger network or a familiar parent company is not a policy form. Newfront has joined WTW, but that ownership does not make WTW the issuer of every policy Newfront arranges. Layr likewise supplies infrastructure and placement access rather than identifying one risk-bearing insurer for every customer. Obtain an insurer and policy schedule for the actual proposal, including any wholesale intermediary and separate policy conditions. 16 22 6

Subcontractor Incidents and Claims Help

Newfront describes pre-loss reporting protocols and claims consultants who review policy response, discuss risk-transfer issues in contracts and respond to coverage reservations or denials. For the business, ask whether the engagement includes helping coordinate an incident involving its own insurer and a subcontractor’s insurance. That is a documented advocacy service to scope, not a promise that either insurer will accept the claim. 48

Layr describes claims functions and licensed support in its portal. Ask the retained broker which insurer receives formal notice and whether the broker or Layr will help assemble the documents and follow up. A more detailed public description on Newfront’s side does not establish poorer assistance through Layr; it identifies service responsibilities that need a written answer before the incident. 5 2 48

Engagement Costs and Included Services

Layr’s broker FAQ and consumer disclosure describe different compensation arrangements: a percentage of premium while the brokerage retains commissions, and a separate description of carrier commissions and a monthly credit-card finance fee. Request the agreement applicable to this brokerage and payment plan. Newfront’s inclusion of vendor tracking at no extra cost is scoped to its client service agreement; it does not establish that the entire brokerage engagement has no fees. 6 8 45

Compare the full engagement and annual insurance amount alongside the work included. For the facilities business, identify who reviews new subcontractor requirements, tracks their evidence and obtains its own policy changes. A premium comparison alone cannot price those services, and broader services should not be assumed to produce lower premiums or better claims outcomes. 2 8 22 48

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Two document workflows: show how the business obtains its own certificates and how it collects, checks and renews vendor evidence. 5 45
  • Contract-to-policy response: request cited requirements, advisor conclusions, proposed endorsements and carrier confirmation. 4 46 17
  • Appointment and transfer plan: identify the broker of record, tool-access conditions and ownership of pending requests and records. 2 17
  • Service and cost schedule: specify vendor tracking, contract review and claims help, with all agency, platform and payment charges. 8 45 48

Service Comparison

Layr vs Newfront: documented services and availability

CriteriaLayrNewfront
Customer focus

Layr provides insurance workflow software and licensed support for independent brokerages serving small-commercial accounts. Policyholders use a broker-branded experience rather than necessarily buying from a storefront carrying the Layr name. 2,3,5

Newfront is an insurance brokerage for businesses, from early-stage companies to established enterprises. It helps buyers arrange business insurance, manage employee benefits, and coordinate risk management with a specialist team and online tools. Its practices include technology, life sciences, construction, financial services, and public-sector organizations. 15,22,38

Application process

Layr describes an online workflow in which a small-business owner assesses and selects coverage, pays, and then has the submission sent to underwriting. Current pages use different speed claims—10 minutes on New Business Capture and 12 minutes in a 2024 announcement—so neither figure establishes the time to receive or bind an actual quote. 4,11

The public buying path starts with a consultation request. The form asks for your role, company, contact details, industry, employee count, and the service you need. It does not display a premium or bind coverage. 23

Newfront describes assembling a team for your industry, reviewing your business and risk exposures, and presenting that information to underwriters. Its technology practice describes onboarding and renewal reviews, with additional market shopping when appropriate. The reviewed public pages do not promise a universal quote or binding turnaround. 22,43,23

Some online services may require you to appoint Newfront as broker of record—the broker designated to service your insurance. Ask which tools and services are included before signing that appointment. 17

Life-science clients can use Newfront’s Clinical Trial Portal to check country requirements, upload documents, and request quotes. The public description does not establish automatic approval or a guaranteed time to receive coverage. 32

Access to insurers

Layr says it works with major national insurers, accesses other markets through wholesalers and can use a brokerage customer's existing carriers. It does not publish a current legal-entity carrier panel or promise that every market will quote every account. 6

The reviewed current product, portal and FAQ pages do not identify the issuing insurer or policy form for each available product. Those details must come from the actual proposal and policy. 4,7,6

Newfront describes relationships with multiple insurers rather than one issuing carrier for all business. Its VCAP page does not name the carriers using its custom endorsement, and its lender program refers to rated carriers without naming them or identifying the rating agency. Ask for the actual issuing entities and proposed forms before relying on those descriptions. 24,30,31

Servicing and renewals

Layr markets a white-labeled portal with licensed support and broker dashboard updates for policies, renewals, claims and payments. A company release also describes policyholder access to documents, quotes, claims, certificates, bills and electronic payments. 5,12

Layr says its team gathers updates, negotiates renewal terms with underwriters and finalizes renewal documents. It describes automatic-renewal policies as hands-free and says customers whose policies need updated information are alerted 60 days before renewal. 6

Newfront says Navigator brings together policy documents, certificates, claims information, payment tools, and communication with the service team. Its Executive Risk page describes renewal submissions pre-filled with historical data and document sharing with access controls. 44,25

A policy or coverage change requested through Navigator remains preliminary until the applicable carrier approves it and provides written confirmation. A submitted request is not evidence that the new coverage is in force. 17

Newfront says its Partner Management tool is included in client service agreements at no additional cost. It tracks vendor certificates, expiration dates, compliance issues, and follow-up activity inside Navigator. This is a statement about that tool, not a promise of free brokerage services. 45

Newfront’s Contract Review tool extracts insurance requirements, compares them with current policies, provides source citations, and notifies the Newfront team. Its Coverage Gap Analysis tool supports the team’s policy reviews. These are company-described functions; the reviewed materials do not independently establish accuracy or prove that all gaps will be detected. 46,47

Newfront’s March 2026 privacy notice describes integration with WTW as ongoing and anticipates substantial integration by year-end, subject to legal and contractual limits. That is a stated plan, not confirmation that systems, data practices, or service agreements have already been unified. 18

Claims assistance

Layr's current portal materials describe claims activity, online claim functions and help from its licensed support team. They do not establish that Layr is the risk-bearing insurer or replace the notice requirements in the policy. 5,12

Newfront describes helping establish reporting protocols before a loss, reviewing how a policy may respond, and acting as the buyer’s liaison with the carrier. Its advocates address coverage-reservation and denial letters, counsel selection, vendor rates, reimbursement, and allocation disputes. This documents claims assistance, not a promise that a claim will be paid. 48
