Corgi vs
ERGO NEXT Insurance
Compare Corgi’s technology-startup packages with ERGO NEXT Insurance’s small-business policies and dependent add-ons when client contracts change.
Introduction
Corgi’s startup packages bring technology errors and omissions, cyber and management liability into a funding-stage purchase discussion. Its agency places coverage with affiliated or partner insurers. 2 1 ERGO NEXT Insurance serves small businesses through online buying, advisors and agents. Its core products include general liability, professional liability, workers’ compensation and a business owner’s policy (BOP); several additional protections depend on an eligible base policy. 29 37 39
For a IT-services company that installs equipment and develops software, the task is combining site work, professional work and customer-required cyber protection without losing track of which coverages depend on each other. Corgi starts with technology-company packaging; ERGO NEXT starts with selectable small-business policies and enhancements. Neither starting point proves acceptance of every activity. 8 31 34

Key Differences Between Corgi and ERGO NEXT Insurance
Site Work, Software and Dependent Add-Ons
An equipment installation and a failed software service create different insurance questions. ERGO NEXT’s BOP combines general liability and commercial property; its professional-liability offering addresses eligible advice and service work separately. Corgi markets technology and AI liability alongside general liability and cyber. Ask both to identify how the proposed forms describe installation, development and ongoing support, including work at customers’ sites. A BOP or a technology label cannot answer that alone. 34 31 2 8
ERGO NEXT documents cyber as an addition to general or professional liability. Its umbrella/excess product depends on ERGO NEXT general liability. If the company later moves its professional or general-liability policy to Corgi, ask what happens to the attached protection before canceling the old base policy. Obtain a schedule showing the replacement cyber coverage and any required underlying policy for higher limits. The dependency matters even if the buyer initially cares only about the cyber line on a customer’s contract. 37 39 2
Corgi’s package also provides a directors and officers (D&O) starting point if outside investment creates a board requirement. ERGO NEXT’s general small-business catalogue does not establish a corresponding D&O placement. Ask its advisor how that separate need would be addressed, rather than assuming professional liability covers directors’ management decisions or that the advisor has no possible route. 5 29 31
Binding, Commercial Auto and Partner Placements
Both providers document online access with human assistance. ERGO NEXT’s application starts with industry and state, and its terms require carrier underwriting approval even if premium has been paid. Corgi’s binding disclosure includes both an issued-policy-and-premium condition and recognition of temporary written binders. For a site-access deadline, ask what written evidence establishes effective coverage and which conditions remain outstanding; neither a payment receipt nor a short quote-time claim settles it. 45 26 2 1
If the IT company adds a van, ERGO NEXT’s commercial-auto page routes it to Progressive. That is a partner transaction with its own proposal and service details, not evidence that the same ERGO NEXT insurer covers the vehicle. Ask Corgi separately how vehicle coverage would fit the package discussion. One brand’s website can be an entry point for several placements, so compare the complete arrangements and contacts. 35 2 1
Certificates, Endorsements and Issuing Insurers
ERGO NEXT describes online certificates and additional-insured requests, while some changes require staff and revised documents can take seven to ten business days. Corgi describes dashboard upgrades as customer requirements change. If a customer requests special wording, send the clause to the responsible team before promising completion; establish whether the task is generating existing evidence or obtaining a new endorsement. Corgi expressly says a certificate does not change the policy. 47 26 2 1
Also identify the actual insurer. ERGO NEXT’s terms name several possible carriers; Munich Re ownership does not make the parent the issuer of every policy. If Corgi proposes Technology Risk Retention Group, Corgi says it has no AM Best rating and risk retention group policies lack state guaranty-fund protection. Its company-described eligible admitted/partner alternatives need separate confirmation. Apply a customer’s rating or admitted-status requirement to the specific quote on both sides. 26 25 1 20
Payment Charges, Cancellation and Claims Contacts
Policies are annual even when premium is paid monthly. The terms say monthly payments carry no interest, finance fee or late-payment fee, but the stored payment method may be charged at renewal, missed payments can lead to a cancellation request, and a deposit premium can be adjusted after a premium audit when business details change. 26
The no-interest, no-finance-fee and no-late-payment-fee statement for ERGO NEXT monthly payments does not eliminate separately permitted service, card, installment or cancellation charges. Its terms describe potentially nonrefundable Next First service fees at binding and renewal, and a card fee avoidable with bank-account payment. Ask which apply to the account. Corgi’s startup ranges are illustrative and its disclosures allow commissions or fees, so obtain a matched annual total with payment method and cancellation assumptions identified. 26 2 1
Changing the base policy may therefore have both coverage and financial consequences: replacement of attached cyber or umbrella protection, retained earned fees and different effective dates. Put those items in the replacement proposal instead of comparing monthly headline prices. ERGO NEXT’s account cancellation process does not establish that every charge is refundable, and Corgi’s quote does not by itself close the old policy. 47 26 37 1
For claims, ERGO NEXT describes digital reporting and an advocate; Corgi describes a claims team with possible affiliated or third-party administration. Record the reporting route for each direct or partner policy, especially a separate auto placement. These features describe assistance, not a comparative record of claim payments. 48 35 1
What to Confirm in Quotes
- Activities and forms: accepted installation, software and support work, property covered, and any separate board requirement. 31 34 8
- Base policies and additions: what cyber or umbrella coverage depends on, and what must replace it if a base policy moves. 37 39 2
- Contract evidence: approved endorsements, effective-date confirmation and insurer-status documents, with a realistic service timetable. 47 26 1
- Annual and exit costs: monthly schedule, separately charged fees, refunds and any partner-auto billing and claims contacts. 26 35 1
Service Comparison
Corgi vs ERGO NEXT Insurance: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Corgi | ERGO NEXT Insurance |
|---|---|---|
| Customer focus | Corgi offers business insurance for technology companies and startups, with packages for pre-seed and seed, Series A, and growth-stage businesses, plus a custom option. 2,3,6,15 In August 2026, Corgi announced product filings for offices, retail, restaurants, personal services, self-storage, wholesalers, community associations, and small rental properties. Availability depends on the product and state. 9 | ERGO NEXT Insurance sells commercial insurance for small businesses and self-employed workers through an online application, licensed advisors and agency partners. Buyers can request coverage, receive electronic documents and manage supported policies online. 23,29,46 |
| Coverage lines | Corgi’s startup packages combine general liability, directors and officers, technology errors and omissions, cyber, media, employment practices, fiduciary, and hired and non-owned auto coverage. Its technology offering includes a Tech & AI Liability module. 2,8,10 Corgi’s D&O page describes claims-made coverage for directors, officers, and the company under form CORG-DO-0100, issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. The example has defense costs within the policy limit and a $25,000 per-claim retention—the portion of a claim you pay. Your quote and policy set the actual terms. 5 Risk retention groups can write business liability insurance for their members. They cannot provide other types of insurance, such as property coverage, so a package with those products needs another insurer. 19,21 | ERGO NEXT directly markets general liability, workers’ compensation, commercial property, professional liability/errors and omissions, and a business owner’s policy that combines general liability with commercial property. Its commercial-auto page instead sends buyers to Progressive and says that coverage is provided through a trusted insurance partner. 30,32,33,31,34,35 Several prominently marketed protections are not standalone ERGO NEXT policies: tools and equipment is a general-liability add-on for contractors and cleaning businesses; cyber can be added to general or professional liability; employment practices liability, liquor liability and commercial umbrella/excess are general-liability add-ons; hired and non-owned auto can be added to general liability for personal vehicles; and product liability is included with general liability for eligible retailers and online sellers. 36,37,38,39,40,41,42 The 2026 general liability and BOP coverage guides list optional damage-to-rented-premises, garagekeepers, abuse-and-molestation and lost-key protections for specified business classes. These are coverage enhancements within eligible ERGO NEXT programs, not a documented set of standalone policies available to every direct buyer. 50,51 Commercial auto is routed to Progressive. ERGO NEXT’s contractor-bond page routes buyers through Liberty Mutual Surety and expressly says ERGO NEXT does not itself offer contractor license bonds, so neither partner product should be mistaken for a policy issued by the ERGO NEXT group. 35,43 Website descriptions and coverage examples are general and illustrative. The terms say an actual policy or third-party agreement is the contract, with coverage subject to its conditions, exclusions and underwriting; the posted specimen cannot establish the form offered to a new applicant. 26,49 |
| Application process | You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. 2,1 | The public quote flow starts with industry and state, then shows stages for coverage, application, quote and purchase. ERGO NEXT says supported policies can be quoted and bought online; licensed advisors are also available. 45,29,46 A complete application and carrier underwriting approval are required. The terms say a premium payment does not bind coverage until the carrier approves the application, and a payment is refunded if the carrier declines it. 26,30 |
| Servicing and renewals | Corgi says customers can add or upgrade policies through its dashboard as they raise funding, hire, or sign larger contracts. Renewal and cancellation terms depend on the policy and state rules. 2,1 | Policyholders can use the online account to access electronic policy documents, update supported policy and payment details, create certificates, add additional insureds and request cancellation. Some changes require staff handling; the account FAQ says revised documents can take seven to ten business days in those cases. 47,26,46 The help center advertises a 24/7 AI assistant and U.S.-based insurance experts on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. The reviewed sources do not promise licensed human support around the clock. 46 A direct customer can request cancellation through the online account. ERGO NEXT says it stops future monthly payments and the account FAQ describes a prorated premium refund, but separately earned service or card fees are generally nonrefundable and the terms allow a cancellation fee where applicable. 47,26 |
| Fees and compensation | Corgi Insurance Services may receive commissions or fees from the insurer or the customer. You can ask for the type and amount of compensation on your policy. 1 Corgi lists typical annual prices of $2,000–$5,000 for eligible pre-seed and seed startups and $5,000–$15,000 for Series A companies. Your price depends on the business, state, coverage, limits, and other underwriting details. 2,6,7 | ERGO NEXT and its partners may receive commissions, fees or interest. The terms permit installment, service and cancellation fees separate from premium; Next First Insurance Agency may charge a nonrefundable service fee at binding and renewal and a nonrefundable card transaction fee, while payment by bank account can avoid the card fee. The reviewed terms do not publish the amounts. 26 Policies are annual even when premium is paid monthly. The terms say monthly payments carry no interest, finance fee or late-payment fee, but the stored payment method may be charged at renewal, missed payments can lead to a cancellation request, and a deposit premium can be adjusted after a premium audit when business details change. 26 |
