Coalition vs
Corgi
Compare a Coalition cyber and Tech E&O placement with Corgi’s stage-based startup packages and insurer options.
Introduction
A financing round and a new enterprise customer can produce two different insurance requests. Corgi organizes packages around startup stages; Coalition offers combined technology errors and omissions (E&O) and cyber coverage and a separate Executive Risks suite. Compare the actual contract obligations before treating either proposal as a complete answer. 20 1 5

Key Differences Between Coalition and Corgi
Package Design and the Insurer Behind It
Corgi’s startup packages combine general liability, directors and officers, technology errors and omissions, cyber, media, employment practices, fiduciary, and hired and non-owned auto coverage. Its technology offering includes a Tech & AI Liability module. 20,26,28
The package can organize a broad request, but the issuing entities still need to be identified coverage by coverage. Corgi’s disclosures describe affiliated and partner insurers, and its D&O page identifies Technology Risk Retention Group. Coalition distinguishes its producer from Coalition Insurance Company for admitted cyber and other insurers for non-admitted placements. These are material proposal details, not interchangeable uses of the word insurer. 19 23 3
Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 38,20,19
A Customer’s Requirements May Be More Specific Than a Package Name
Coalition’s help center states that admitted and surplus cyber policies are offered in all 50 states and D.C., including California. Its product comparison lists Tech E&O and MPL under surplus coverage. This documents a California cyber placement route, but does not establish approval or the exact Tech E&O form for a particular applicant. 10,11
A California founder should ask both providers to identify the paper proposed for Tech E&O and D&O, then have the customer confirm acceptance where its contract imposes insurer requirements. Corgi’s new admitted-carrier announcement does not establish its complete licensed-state footprint or financial-strength rating. Do not apply an affiliated carrier’s status to another entity’s policy. 27 19
Upgrading Coverage and Reducing Cyber Exposure Are Different Jobs
Corgi says its dashboard supports adding or upgrading policies as funding and hiring change. Coalition’s Control services focus on security findings, alerts and remediation guidance. A team comparing ongoing service should ask who handles coverage changes and who acts on security alerts, rather than equating the two dashboards. 20 8
What to Confirm in Quotes
Request a coverage-by-coverage insurer schedule, the cyber/E&O aggregate structure and the terms for adding coverage after the round. For a Corgi RRG placement, review the membership and guaranty-fund notices. For Coalition, confirm the California Tech E&O form and the broker’s role in servicing the broader program. Neither stage labels nor a cyber quote establish that every customer requirement has been met. 19 11 13
Service Comparison
Coalition vs Corgi: documented services and availability
| Criteria | Coalition | Corgi |
|---|---|---|
| Business role | Coalition combines commercial insurance offerings with cyber risk-management services. In the United States, Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc. (CIS) is the disclosed insurance producer and surplus lines broker; the issuing insurer is responsible for policy obligations. 2,7 Coalition lists CIS’s California producer and surplus lines license as 0L76155. This is a company disclosure; current license status has not been independently checked with the California regulator. 2 Coalition’s legal page identifies Coalition Incident Response, Inc., doing business as Coalition Security, or independent third parties as security-service providers. Coalition Security does not provide insurance. 2 | Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. is the licensed agency that sells and administers Corgi policies. The insurer named in your policy provides the coverage. 19,20,22 |
| Access to insurers | Coalition identifies Coalition Insurance Company (NAIC 29530) for admitted cyber and describes CIS as acting for unaffiliated insurers on non-admitted placements. The reviewed sources do not assign a single insurer to every California Tech E&O quote; confirm the named carrier on the quote and policy. 3,2 | Corgi uses affiliated and partner insurers. Your policy names the insurer and claims administrator for your coverage. 19 Technology Risk Retention Group, Inc. appears in the NAIC company listing as Arizona-domiciled property and casualty company code 17763 (listed as TECHNOLOGY RRG INC). Corgi’s disclaimers call TRRG the group’s primary underwriting entity and a risk retention group organized under the Liability Risk Retention Act. The same Carrier Financial Strength paragraph describes TRRG as federally chartered and operating under federal prudential oversight; that wording is company language and is not adopted here as a legal conclusion. 35,19,21,20,36,37 A risk retention group is a member-owned liability insurer licensed in its home state. Federal law lets it operate in other states through registration. Members must have similar or related business risks. 36,37,39 For customers who need an admitted insurer, Corgi says it can use affiliated or partner carriers rated A- or better by AM Best. Options depend on the state, coverage, and business. Eligible admitted policies may have state guaranty-association protection, subject to that state’s limits. 19,21,20,27 Corgi says Technology Risk Retention Group does not have an AM Best rating. A financial-strength rating and admitted status are separate things. 19,23 Corgi Insurance Company’s August 2026 launch announcement did not give a financial-strength rating or a complete list of licensed states. Confirm both if they are requirements for your business. 27,40 Policies issued by a risk retention group are not covered by state insurance guaranty funds. Corgi includes this notice for policies issued by Technology Risk Retention Group. 38,20,19 Corgi says its insurers may share risk with reinsurers, while the insurer on your policy remains responsible for claims. Its public disclosures do not name the current reinsurers or their contract terms. 19,32 |
| Application process | Coalition directs buyers to an appointed insurance broker and offers help finding access if their broker does not offer Coalition. It describes underwriting that considers industry, finances, operations and security posture. 13 Coalition’s broker instructions describe adding Tech E&O during the cyber quote process, supplying a product or service description and answering contract-related questions. Some quotes require review before a price is released. 12 | You can apply online or book a call with a Corgi specialist. Corgi says eligible applicants can get a quote in minutes and buy coverage the same day. Its disclosures describe both an issued-policy-and-payment condition and temporary coverage under a written binder. Confirm the applicable conditions and effective date in writing. 20,19 |
| Servicing and renewals | Coalition describes Control policyholder features at no additional cost, including attack-surface monitoring, vendor-risk monitoring, vulnerability alerts and guidance. Login Security requires connecting a Microsoft or Google environment. Additional security products are promoted separately. 8 Coalition says cyber renewals begin 90 days before expiration and follow Automatic, Express or Standard paths based on the account. Express renewals require responses; Standard renewals require a bind order and updated signed application, with additional underwriting conditions for some accounts. Automatic renewal does not guarantee an unchanged premium. 15 | Corgi says customers can add or upgrade policies through its dashboard as they raise funding, hire, or sign larger contracts. Renewal and cancellation terms depend on the policy and state rules. 20,19 |
