Tell us who holds your assets and keys

Your Spot team maps the assets you own and hold for customers, your wallets and storage arrangements, who controls the keys and approves transfers, the legal entities involved and the outside technology you rely on.

See which losses each quote covers

Brokers take the submission to insurers that write digital asset risks, and we ask how each proposal treats outside theft, employee theft and lost or destroyed keys, along with its valuation method, currency and limit.

How buying Crypto and Digital Asset Insurance works with Spot

  1. 01

    Tell us about your business

Share what you do, where you work, the policies you have and any contracts that ask for insurance.

  2. 02

    We write up your application

Spot turns it into an application that describes your business the way insurers need to see it.

  3. 03

    We get quotes from insurers

Spot handles the procurement, sending it to the insurers and markets that cover businesses like yours and chasing every quote.

  4. 04

    Compare your quotes

We put the quotes side by side on limits, exclusions and terms as well as price.

Is Crypto and Digital Asset Insurance right for you?

  • Companies holding digital assets of their own

Your assets sit in wallets you or a custodian control, and the policy has to say which of them it addresses.

  • Platforms holding assets for customers

A loss can reach assets others have entrusted to you, so the quote needs to tell them apart from your own.

  • Custody providers

You safeguard assets and keys for others, and claims about your services are a separate exposure from the assets themselves.

  • Businesses relying on a third-party custodian

Your custodian’s insurance may protect the custodian rather than you.

When to get Crypto and Digital Asset Insurance

  • 01

You’re taking custody of customer assets

Separate customer holdings from your own before you quote, and ask how the policy tells them apart.

  • 02

You’re moving to a new custodian or wallet setup

Check the new arrangement against the wallets, storage methods and insured entity the policy names.

  • 03

    Your custodian says it’s insured

Find out whose loss that policy pays before you rely on it for your own holdings.

  • 04

    Your asset values have moved

Compare the limit with current values using the policy’s valuation method and currency. Custody or theft insurance doesn’t guarantee what the assets are worth.

  • 05

    You’ve added a legal entity

A new entity holding or controlling wallets may not be the one named on the policy. Confirm which entity is insured.

Crypto and Digital Asset Insurance questions

Also known as digital asset insurance, crypto insurance, cryptocurrency insurance, crypto custody insurance, digital asset custody insurance and crypto wallet insurance.

Does FDIC insurance cover cryptocurrency?

No. FDIC deposit insurance doesn’t insure cryptocurrency, so protection for assets you hold has to come from a policy written for them.

Do our cyber or D&O policies cover assets in custody?

Not by default. Buying cyber, professional liability or D&O doesn’t establish that assets in your custody are insured. Spot compares those policies with your custody proposal to see where they overlap and where they don’t.

Will a policy pay out if token prices fall?

Don’t count on it. Custody and theft insurance doesn’t guarantee asset value, and Spot asks how each contract treats market-price changes and code or network failures.

Does a theft policy cover lost private keys?

Not necessarily. Lost or destroyed keys need their own check, apart from outside theft and employee theft. Spot asks brokers about each one.

Our broker hasn’t placed a custody policy before. Can Spot still help?

Yes. Spot can work alongside your current broker, or help you move to one who places digital asset risks. Whichever broker places the policy, Spot works with them rather than replacing them, and takes no commissions on premiums.
