What you’ll need

  • 01

People who handle money or property

Employees, contractors and volunteers with access, since the policy defines who counts as an employee.

  • 02

    Client property you hold

Money or assets of customers in your care, which may or may not count as insured property.

  • 03

    Payment procedures

How payments and changes to bank details are approved, which matters for impersonation and funds-transfer fraud.

  • 04

Money at locations and in transit

Where cash or valuables are kept and how they move.

  • 05

    Inventory practices

How you count and track stock, since a shortage supported only by inventory calculations may be treated differently.

  • 06

    Prior losses

Thefts or frauds you’ve had, including when they happened and when you discovered them.

  • 07

    Current coverage and limits

Your expiring crime policy and the limits and retentions you want to compare.

What affects your price

  • 01

How much money and property you handle

More cash, payments and assets in motion means more to lose.

  • 02

    Who has access

More people with access to money or accounts raises the exposure.

  • 03

    Which losses you insure

Employee theft, forgery, in-transit money and computer or funds-transfer fraud each carry their own limit and cost.

  • 04

    Limits and retention

Higher limits cost more, and a higher retention can lower the price.

  • 05

    Loss history

Earlier thefts and frauds affect whether and how insurers quote.

Common questions

Does crime insurance cover a payment sent to a fake supplier?

Not automatically. A payment an employee was tricked into authorizing needs explicit attention, because computer-fraud or funds-transfer coverage may not respond. We ask it of every proposal.

What if I discover a theft months later?

Discovery and reporting dates matter. If you changed insurers in between, we help explain how both policies’ terms apply.

Is crime the same as cyber coverage?

No. Crime addresses stolen money or property, while cyber covers breach response and liability. Where fraud protection overlaps, we check both.

Does Spot replace my broker for crime coverage?

No. We work alongside your broker, take no commissions on premiums and can help you move to a different broker if you’d like.
