Is Marsh McLennan Agency Legit? Licensing, Carriers and Reliability

Marsh McLennan Agency has no Broker Spot Score because the reviewed evidence is insufficient for a numerical assessment. Spot Scores assess documented reliability within the reviewed scope; they do not predict claims payment.

Assessment

Assessment status unavailable

No numerical score is published. The evidence we found doesn't settle which Marsh McLennan Agency entity will place a given policy, and a proposed name change is still open. Ask for the contracting producer and insurer in your proposal.

Evidence and Scope

Role: Broker. Scope: Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA), the US middle-market brokerage arm of Marsh, and its legal entity Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC. MMA also operates in Canada; this packet covers the US only. Ratings or complaints for Marsh (global, UK Marsh Commercial) are not used. No numerical Spot Score is included.

Identity and authority

Marsh lists Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC as the current US legal entity for Marsh Agency (formerly MMA), with Marsh Agency LLC proposed. The accepted Louisiana record names the current LLC as a Producer Agency for Louisiana. Separately, the provider-published Thompkins Masonic program page names Marsh & McLennan Insurance Agency LLC and prints California license identifier spellings OH18131 and 0H18131 in different page locations. Do not collapse these legal entities, resolve the spelling discrepancy, infer a nationwide license, or assign either disclosure to an unrelated policy placement.[5][6][7][1][13]

Financial evidence

No MMA-specific balance sheet, capital/liquidity evidence, parent guarantee, or account-specific insurer was established from the reviewed identity and service pages. Marsh parent consolidated figures and Marsh USA LLC evidence are not substituted for MMA or a policy insurer.[2][5][8]

Claims and servicing

Accepted Tampa research lists InsurLink policy/endorsement access, CSR24 certificates, carrier claim contacts and a local consultant route for that office. MMA’s business-interruption page describes advocacy with insurers for complex claim issues. This does not establish claim adjustment, payment, insurer identity, or a general service-level promise.[9][4]

Carrier network

MMA says it works with a wide variety of carriers but the reviewed page names no carriers, appointments, placement shares, terms, or account-specific insurer. Carrier strength is not transferred to MMA.[8]

Regulatory conduct

Texas has disciplined Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC for the same problem more than once: filing surplus lines policies late with the state stamping office. A consent order dated 2025-12-18 (No. 2025-9693) imposed $59,825 for late filings in 2024. A consent order dated 2024-10-03 (No. 2024-8885) imposed $28,300 for late filings in 2023. The 2025 order lists earlier orders from 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2024. These are paperwork-timing violations, not findings that claims were mishandled.[10][11]

A search also surfaced Alaska Division of Insurance orders (for example D23-03) naming the company. We haven't confirmed their contents, so we report no details. We did not check other states' regulators or the NIPR database, so this is not a complete conduct history.[12][6]

Disclosure and compensation

The legal page distinguishes the current MMA entity from a proposed name; reviewed service pages do not provide buyer-specific compensation or name the issuer for a specific policy. Request the contracting producer, insurer, compensation basis and claims contact in the proposal.[5][8]

Complaints and accountability evidence

BBB's San Diego-area profile for Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC (grade A, accredited) shows four complaints closed in three years, one in the last 12 months. Examples include a commercial vehicle cancellation dispute and one personal-lines claim; the company answered the vehicle complaint. BBB's Dayton and Schaumburg office profiles show A+ and zero complaints in three years. Complaints are unverified customer accounts with no client-count denominator.[3][14][15]

Evidence gaps

  • The contracting producer and issuer for a specific placement, as stated in that buyer’s proposal.
  • Completion status by state for proposed Marsh Agency LLC name.
  • Issuing insurer/program administrator for each quote.
  • MMA-entity financial statements, liquidity or parent support obligation.
  • Named carrier appointments, placement shares and line-specific network evidence.
  • A complete identity-scoped conduct picture beyond the bounded BBB evidence currently recorded.
  • Buyer-specific compensation, service agreement and fee/commission terms.
  • Full policy forms, limits, retentions, exclusions and claims administrator.
  • Alaska Division of Insurance orders naming the company (such as D23-03) exist, but their amounts and findings haven't been confirmed.
  • Only Louisiana and Texas were checked against regulator records. No NIPR/NPN lookup or other state license search was done, and no license status was verified live for Texas.
  • MMA operates in Canada too; no Canadian provincial regulator was researched.
