Government Contractors we help

  • First-time federal contractors

Your first award may include FAR insurance clauses and Schedule requirements you must meet before work starts.

  • Contractors working on installations

Work at a Government installation can require contract-specified insurance and flow-down to your subcontractors.

  • Professional and technology services firms

Your consulting, software or analytics deliverables matter to the agency, and federal clauses don’t set a universal E&O requirement.

  • Construction and services bidders

The solicitation may require a bid guarantee, performance bond or payment bond as well as insurance.

Insurance Government Contractors usually carry

The policies companies like yours are usually asked for, and when each one comes up.

  • General liability

The solicitation or contract includes FAR 52.228-7, FAR 52.228-5, or another clause that lists general liability or requires a stated limit for your work.

  • Workers’ compensation

A federal clause, state work location, or contract schedule calls for workers compensation or employers liability, or your workforce spans states or contract sites.

  • Commercial auto

Your contract work uses owned, leased, rented, or employee vehicles, or the solicitation includes an auto-liability clause or schedule requirement.

  • Surety bonds

A federal solicitation includes a bid guarantee provision or requires a performance bond or performance-and-payment bond.

  • Professional errors and omissions (E&O)

You provide consulting, software, engineering, analytics, training, or another service whose deliverable or performance is material to the customer’s work.

  • Cyber liability

Your federal work stores, processes, or accesses agency, employee, customer, or other sensitive information, or depends on a cloud, software, or subcontractor service.

When Government Contractors need insurance

  • 01

    You’re responding to a solicitation

List every insurance clause and bond requirement before you price, and keep policy evidence and surety bonds on separate checklists.

  • 02

Your contract involves work on a Government installation

Check whether the installation-work clause applies, what insurance it requires during performance and what flows down to subcontractors.

  • 03

The solicitation requires a bid guarantee

Record the required instrument, its form, amount and deadline, and ask the surety what it needs from you.

  • 04

Your staff work in several states or sites

Disclose actual locations and duties, and check each state’s workers’ compensation requirement separately.

  • 05

    You’ll handle agency data

Inventory data, system access, vendors and contract security terms before you ask about cyber coverage.

Questions from Government Contractors

Also known as government contractor insurance, federal contractor insurance, government contracting insurance, GSA contractor insurance and public sector contractor insurance.

What insurance does a GSA contractor need?

A GSA Schedule doesn’t carry one package; each order or contract can add its own clauses. Most contractors start with general liability, workers’ compensation and commercial auto, then add E&O, cyber or bonds as awards require. Spot lists what yours says.

Do all federal contractors have the same insurance requirements?

No. The FAR says agencies don’t ordinarily concern themselves with a fixed-price contractor’s insurance but may specify it in special circumstances. Your contract’s clauses and Schedule decide what you need.

Is a bid guarantee the same as insurance?

No. Bid guarantees, performance bonds and payment bonds are surety instruments, separate from liability, auto, workers’ compensation, cyber or professional liability insurance.

Does the government reimburse our premiums?

Don’t assume so. Some clauses address cost reimbursement in stated circumstances, but none promises it for every premium or loss. Spot reads the full clause in your contract.

Which award documents should we send?

Send the solicitation or signed contract and its Schedule, plus a list of your entities, sites, staff locations, vehicles, data and subcontractors. Your Spot team prepares the submission from them.

Can our current broker handle the placement?

Yes. Spot works alongside your broker on the clauses in the award and takes no commissions on premiums. If your broker doesn’t write surety or can’t meet a clause, you can bring in a surety or switch brokers.
