Does Commercial Property Cover Fire?

Usually, fire is a commonly covered cause of loss, subject to the policy’s terms, limits, and exclusions.

Fire is among the causes commonly listed in basic commercial property coverage, and covered fire damage may apply to insured buildings and business personal property. Payment still depends on the policy’s insured location and property definitions, applicable deductible, valuation clause, and whether an exclusion or condition affects the loss. A fire claim can also create a separate question about business-income coverage during repairs.

Check the declarations for each location and building limit, the property schedule for contents, and the causes-of-loss form. Review exclusions and protective-safeguard requirements, including any warranties for alarms or sprinklers. If the business depends on continued operations, confirm whether business income and extra expense are actually included and what waiting period and restoration period apply.
