Business Interruption vs Business Income Coverage?
The terms are commonly used for the same type of coverage: protection for covered income loss during an interruption of operations.
Business interruption is often called business income coverage in policy forms and consumer guidance. Both terms generally refer to insurance for certain financial losses when operations are suspended after a covered property loss. The payment is governed by the actual insuring agreement and definitions, not the label on a quote. Some packages may use “business income” for a defined coverage part and provide separate extensions such as extra expense or civil authority.
Compare the form number and wording, covered trigger, income calculation, waiting period, restoration period, limits, and exclusions. Confirm whether extra expense and dependent-property extensions are part of the quoted coverage or separate options.
