Can You Buy Six-Month Builders Risk Insurance?

Some programs offer a six-month option for certain projects; availability and extension terms depend on the insurer and the project.

Six months is an option in US Assure’s remodeling policy application guidance, which asks applicants in that program to select a six-, nine-, or twelve-month term. That does not guarantee the same term for a new home, commercial project, another insurer, or a different state. Ask the insurer to confirm eligibility and exact policy dates.

Estimate the full schedule, including inspections, testing, deliveries, and handover. If the work may continue beyond the initial term, ask how early to seek an extension and whether the underwriter must approve it. US Assure says renewal is not automatic for its program, so do not rely on assumed renewal.

Compare the six-month premium with a longer term, any minimum premium, cancellation terms, and extension costs. Review the policy’s completion, occupancy, and acceptance triggers, then arrange permanent property insurance before builders risk protection stops.
