Does Builders Risk Cover Vandalism?
It may cover vandalism damage to insured project property when vandalism is a covered cause of loss.
Oregon’s state risk guidance describes builders risk as covering direct physical loss from a covered peril at the jobsite and lists vandalism among common causes addressed in soft-cost context. The ISO form uses covered-causes language, so coverage still depends on exclusions and the insured property definition. Damage to a building under construction is different from damage to contractor-owned tools, landscaping, or property outside the described site. Review the vandalism peril wording, protective-safeguard conditions, construction shutdown clauses, and any limits for temporary structures or materials stored elsewhere. Damage to a neighbor’s property during vandalism or site access is a separate liability question, often handled under the responsible contractor’s or owner’s general liability policy if its terms apply. For this property claim, document the exact damaged item and location, then confirm that vandalism is not limited by a shutdown, vacancy, or protective-safeguard condition.
