Armilla vs At-Bay

Compare AI performance remedies with technology E&O service-credit coverage and cyber security services.

Introduction

An enterprise customer may demand service credits when an AI product underperforms. At-Bay’s technology E&O highlights describe service credits issued to settle a claim as payable damages, subject to the policy. Armilla’s performance warranty concerns agreed AI metrics and contractual remedies. Those descriptions invite a precise comparison of the customer promise and the event that makes money payable. 10 4

Key Differences Between Armilla and At-Bay

A Claim Settlement Is Not an Automatic Performance Refund

At-Bay combines professional liability and cyber coverage, with examples including coding errors, failed implementations and contractual indemnity. Its service-credit wording should be examined in the context of a claim and its settlement. Armilla’s warranty is explicitly distinct from insurance and has its own performance conditions. Ask whether a credit owed automatically under your customer contract satisfies either mechanism; do not infer coverage merely because both descriptions mention a financial remedy. 10 2 4

Armilla also markets AI liability insurance. That creates a possible policy comparison with At-Bay’s technology E&O, separate from the warranty comparison. Submit the same customer contract and failure scenario for both policy reviews, keeping any warranty proposal in its own column. 3 10

Current Appetite Matters for Autonomous Products

At-Bay’s accessible legacy appetite document lists autonomous AI among restricted classes, but it is a historical document with lower ceilings than the current product page. It is not reliable proof that your current application will be rejected. Ask underwriting for the applicable version and a written response to the actual autonomous functions. Armilla’s AI focus likewise does not guarantee acceptance of every model or use case. 20 10 2

The At-Bay product page and broker platform also publish different appetite ceilings. A company outside the portal’s limits should clarify the underwriting route rather than equating a platform limit with the full product appetite. Armilla describes assessment and tailoring instead of an instant binding route. 14 10 2

Budget Separately for the Technical Services

At-Bay Stance ties access to an Embedded Security Fee and Endorsement; optional managed detection and response is a separate security purchase. Armilla’s assessments examine AI performance, fairness, security and robustness. A finance team should identify the deliverables and charges for each rather than comparing an insurance premium with an assessment-inclusive total. These services address different technical work. 15 5 7

What to Confirm in Quotes

  • Supply the actual service-credit clause and ask about claim, consent, settlement and warranty-remediation conditions. 10 4
  • Obtain current autonomous-AI appetite and the California issuer; At-Bay’s 2023 own-paper announcement does not identify every current quote. 20 19 1
  • Itemize premium, embedded security fee, optional MDR, producer charges and assessment or warranty costs. 15 18 7

Service Comparison

Armilla vs At-Bay: documented services and availability

CriteriaArmillaAt-Bay
Business role

Armilla markets AI liability insurance, performance warranties and model assessments. It describes its insurance operation as a managing general agent (MGA), an intermediary with underwriting responsibilities, and names Armilla Insurance Services as a Lloyd’s coverholder. These descriptions do not make Armilla the risk-bearing insurer. 3,1,6

Florida’s corporate registry lists Armilla Insurance Services Inc., a Delaware corporation. This establishes a corporate identity, not an insurance license or authority to place a California risk. 8

At-Bay offers cyber, technology errors and omissions (Tech E&O), and miscellaneous professional liability insurance. Its disclosed producer, At-Bay Insurance Services LLC, is a property and casualty agency and surplus lines broker; its website says coverage is underwritten by non-admitted insurers. 9,13

Application process

Armilla’s insurance FAQ says to begin with an AI risk assessment, followed by a tailored insurance or warranty plan. The site directs buyers to contact its team; coverage requires written confirmation and completion of underwriting requirements. 2,1

At-Bay describes a broker workflow of completing an application, adjusting limits and retentions, reviewing documents, selecting an effective date, and satisfying contingencies and signature requirements before binding. Brokers can also email submissions to underwriting. An online quote is not itself bound coverage. 14,12

Servicing and renewals

Armilla Verified evaluates model performance, fairness, security and robustness. Armilla describes scoping, testing, remediation support and an internal report, with a badge conditional on meeting benchmarks. Optional monitoring and retesting are offered as models change. 5

The reviewed assessment and insurance pages do not disclose insurance renewal procedures or whether ongoing model monitoring is included in the premium. Optional assessment support should be priced and scoped separately in the proposal. 5,2

At-Bay Stance offers vulnerability monitoring, fraud defense, employee security training and access to cyber advisors. Access is tied to the policy’s Embedded Security Fee and Endorsement; optional managed detection and response (MDR) is a separate purchase from At-Bay Security, LLC. 15

At-Bay markets Stance MDR for endpoints and email, plus managed extended detection and response (MXDR) spanning endpoint, email, identity and cloud. It says MDR is optional for insurance and available beyond its policyholders. Coverage enhancements and premium credits have qualifying conditions. 15

At-Bay describes broker dashboard access to active policies and renewals, with rapid and manual renewal paths. Its platform page says rapid renewals bind automatically 15 days before expiry; buyers should confirm enrollment, terms and change deadlines with their broker. 14

Fees and compensation

Armilla advertises commissions to brokers without publishing rates on the reviewed broker page. Its website terms allow service fees but do not provide an insurance-specific fee schedule. Premiums, assessment costs and any broker or policy charges need an itemized quote. 6,7

Stance access uses an Embedded Security Fee and Endorsement, while MDR is separately purchased. Security costs should be distinguished from the insurance premium and any broker charges. 15

Commission rates, broker compensation arrangements and a complete placement-fee schedule were not disclosed in the reviewed product, platform and US terms pages. This does not establish that commissions or fees are absent; request an itemized quote and compensation disclosure. 10,14,18
