Does Professional Liability Cover Property Damage?

Often, property damage belongs under general liability or a specific property form; many professional E&O forms exclude it unless terms add coverage.

Professional E&O usually addresses claims for financial harm from professional work, not physical damage to tangible property. Texas DOI distinguishes general liability, which can protect against property-damage claims, from professional liability. One sample E&O form expressly excludes property damage. The result may differ for a technology product, installation service, or profession-specific policy, and a single incident can trigger more than one coverage section. Read the property-damage definition and exclusion, any exception for loss of use without physical injury, and the coverage grant for the service involved. Check that the general-liability quote covers your operations and completed work; ask how policies coordinate if a client alleges negligent advice and damaged equipment.

Ask whether loss of use without physical damage is treated as property damage, financial loss, or excluded. Definitions can change which contract responds where installed equipment or customer property is involved.
