Does Builders Risk Cover Testing?

Some forms cover limited damage during testing, but the grant may be narrow and capped.

The ISO specimen includes testing coverage for loss to covered property at the jobsite caused by a breakdown of covered equipment during testing. It is subject to a stated limit and does not establish blanket coverage for every testing operation. Clarify whether cold tests, hot tests, pressure tests, commissioning, or startup are included, and when each begins and ends. Check the equipment definition, schedule, sublimit, and exclusions for design or workmanship defects. Oregon’s installation-floater guidance also treats installation and testing as locations or stages to arrange deliberately. Testing damage to the equipment itself and resulting damage to other project property can be treated differently, and a separate equipment breakdown endorsement may change the ISO specimen’s testing provision. Submit the written test protocol and schedule before the first test. Check the dollar cap, definition of breakdown, location restriction, and whether the policy allows repeated tests or only an identified testing period.
