Can we assume E&O covers unpaid loan balances?

Do not assume that it does. Ask whether the quote addresses credit losses or only specified liability claims, then confirm the answer in the policy wording.[5]

Describe borrower nonpayment separately from an alleged error in originating, underwriting, servicing, or reporting on the loan. Ask the insurer what category each event falls into and request the actual wording.[2]

Record any credit-loss, contract-liability, or financial-services exclusion and ask what remains unresolved. A policy name or product application cannot establish that the balance is insured.[5]
