# Switching from Pie Insurance? Compare your options with Spot

Spot reads your Pie workers’ compensation and any policies arranged through other insurers, then takes the whole program to market.

- Payroll-based premium and audit terms read before you move
- Policies on different insurers lined up on one calendar
- Your Pie coverage stays until the next policy binds

## How it works

- **Send your Pie policies.** Share the workers’ compensation policy, its declarations page and any general liability or other policy Pie arranged with another insurer. Your Spot team lists each insurer by name.
- **We gather payroll and class codes.** Your Spot team collects payroll by employee class, subcontractor use and prior audit results, which is what workers’ compensation underwriters ask for.
- **Brokers take one submission out.** Spot works with brokers to approach insurers that write workers’ compensation and the rest of your trade program. Underwriting questions come to you in Slack.
- **Line up proposals and bind.** You compare proposals on terms, not just premium. Your Spot team helps you bind, and sets a start date that meets the end of your Pie term.

Pie is a small-business insurer whose clearest direct offer is workers’ compensation, including pay-as-you-go billing. It arranges general liability and professional liability through other insurers and gives access to cyber quotes from carrier partners. You can start a workers’ compensation quote online or through an agent.

## Why businesses consider switching

- **Payroll grew.** As your crew expands, workers’ compensation premium changes with it, which is a fair reason to see other options.
- **Your policies sit with different insurers.** When workers’ compensation and general liability renew on different dates, a single program is easier to follow.
- **A job needs bigger limits.** A general contractor or customer may require limits or endorsements your current policies don’t carry.
- **You want help at audit time.** Payroll audits and classification questions take effort, and some owners would rather have a team alongside them.

## How to switch without a gap

- **Find the end date of your term.** Workers’ compensation usually reconciles to actual payroll at the end of the term. Note the date so the new policy starts as the old one ends.
- **Keep payroll records for the old term.** You may be asked for them during the final audit even after you have moved.
- **Get the new policy bound before cancelling.** Hold written confirmation of its effective date. Don’t end the Pie policy until you do.
- **Cancel and ask about the balance.** Use your Pie account or agent contact to end the policy, then ask what final premium adjustment to expect.

## Common questions

### What happens to payroll-based premium when I switch?

Workers’ compensation premium is based on payroll and is usually reconciled with an audit when the policy ends. Keep your payroll records for the old policy and ask what final balance to expect.

### My general liability sits with a different insurer. Does that matter?

It means your policies may renew on different dates. Your Spot team lists every date and insurer, so you can move them together or one by one.

### Is Spot the same company as Pie?

No. Spot is independent of Pie Insurance and not affiliated with it. We name Pie only so you know which provider you’re leaving.

### How soon can I switch?

That depends on your term. A mid-term move is possible if the cancellation terms allow it, but your Spot team will want the new policy bound first so no day goes uninsured.

### Does Spot take commissions?

Spot takes none on premiums. We work with brokers, and agents you already use can stay involved.
