# Switching from Hiscox? Compare your options with Spot

Spot reads your Hiscox professional liability and general liability side by side, then takes the same program to market with your claims-made dates intact.

- Retroactive dates and notice terms read before anything moves
- Workers’ compensation and general liability planned together
- Your Hiscox policies stay active until the new ones bind

## How it works

- **Send your Hiscox policies and declarations.** Include each policy that came after an online ZIP-code quote and the certificates Hiscox emailed. Your Spot team notes the producer and the insurer named on every declarations page.
- **We pin down the claims-made details.** For professional liability, your Spot team records the retroactive date, reporting window and exclusions for technology, intellectual property or data events. Replacement proposals are measured against those, not just against price.
- **Brokers hear about the whole program.** Spot prepares one submission covering professional, general liability, cyber and any workers’ compensation, then works with brokers to approach insurers that write them. Follow-up questions arrive in your Slack channel.
- **Bind with your history protected.** You compare proposals line by line. Your Spot team helps you bind the one you choose, and checks that prior-acts dates carry over before the Hiscox policy ends.

Hiscox sells general liability, professional liability, cyber and business owner’s policies to small businesses, with a stated focus on small professional and service businesses such as IT and consulting firms. Eligible businesses can quote online by entering a ZIP code, and some products are issued by partner insurers. Workers’ compensation is available through a partner and requires a general liability policy.

## Why businesses consider switching

- **Your services grew past one policy.** A consulting or IT firm that adds staff, clients or software products may need limits or wording its first policy didn’t anticipate.
- **A contract wants different terms.** Client agreements often name specific limits, additional insured wording or cyber requirements, and a policy can be adjusted or replaced to meet them.
- **A renewal changed the picture.** A new premium or changed terms at renewal is a fair prompt to see what the market would write for the same exposures.
- **You want your program in one place.** When general liability, professional liability, cyber and workers’ compensation are separate, someone has to track all the dates.

## How to switch without a gap

- **Check how your policies depend on each other.** If your workers’ compensation was added through a partner and needs general liability behind it, ending one can affect the other. Map that before you act.
- **Protect your claims-made history.** Ask your Spot team to confirm the retroactive date on any replacement professional liability policy. A later date could leave earlier work uncovered.
- **Bind first, cancel second.** Wait for written confirmation that each replacement is bound and when it starts. Only then end the matching Hiscox policy.
- **Cancel through the route you bought by.** Check the policy documents for how to cancel and who handles it, since some Hiscox products are issued through partners with their own contacts.

## Common questions

### Does my workers’ compensation depend on my general liability policy?

Hiscox offers workers’ compensation through a partner insurer and requires a general liability policy with it. Before you end either one, your Spot team checks how your policies connect and plans the move so each stays in force until its replacement binds.

### Who issues my Hiscox policy?

It depends on the product. Hiscox names an affiliated insurer for some policies and partner insurers for others, so check the insurer on your declarations page. Send that page to your Spot team, and we compare any new proposal against it.

### Is Spot part of Hiscox?

Spot isn’t part of Hiscox or affiliated with it. We mention Hiscox only to identify your current insurer.

### What about the retroactive date on a new professional liability policy?

Ask for it in the proposal. Your Spot team reads it with you, because a later retroactive date can change which past work a claim is covered for.

### Do I need to drop my broker to use Spot?

No. Spot works with brokers and doesn’t earn commissions on premiums, so any broker you use can stay involved.
