# Switching from Cowbell? Compare your options with Spot

Cowbell sells cyber through agents on a platform they use to quote and bind, so your Spot team works from your agent’s file and rebuilds the same structure with other insurers.

- Primary and excess layers compared by layer
- Policy services listed with each proposal
- Your agent kept in the loop if you want

## How it works

- **Send the policy and your agent’s name.** Upload the Cowbell declarations, the forms and the renewal proposal. Your Spot team writes down the layers, limits and retentions, plus any technology E&O or management liability on the same account.
- **Collect the facts underwriters ask for.** We gather your size, systems, security controls and customer contracts. A larger account may need a signed application and review, so we prepare it early.
- **Brokers take it to market.** Brokers ask for cyber at the same layers as yours, plus the other lines you carry. Replies arrive in your Slack channel.
- **Compare layers and services, then bind.** Your Spot team compares each tower and the risk services included, then helps you bind while the existing policy is still active.

Cowbell is a cyber-focused insurance platform with size-based primary and excess programs, technology E&O and a Zurich management liability product. Buyers work through an insurance agent or broker, and appointed agents use Cowbell’s platform to quote, bind and issue eligible products. No direct-buyer quote path was described.

## Why businesses consider switching

- **Your cyber program needs more layers.** Growth often calls for excess limits on top of a primary policy.
- **Technology E&O is missing.** A cyber-only program can leave a gap when customers focus on service failures.
- **Your agent can’t offer what you need.** Appointments differ by product, and a change of agent or broker can open different markets.
- **You want one place for the whole account.** Cyber, management liability and certificates are easier to follow when a single team tracks them.

## How to switch without a gap

- **Read the renewal proposal.** Note the date, premium, limits and layers, and any financing arrangement tied to the annual premium.
- **Get matching proposals.** Ask for the same structure from other insurers so limits line up across proposals.
- **Bind the new tower before ending the old one.** Every layer must be in force before you release the previous policy, or a gap in the excess can leave a loss uncovered.
- **Route the cancellation through your agent.** Cowbell sends policyholders to their agent for cancellations. If you financed the premium, ask for the cancellation balance and refund treatment in writing, then replace certificates.

## Common questions

### I can’t buy from Cowbell directly. Who do I ask about my policy?

Your agent or broker. Cowbell’s platform is used by appointed agents, so they are the first call on renewal and cancellation. Your Spot team can sit alongside them.

### Can Spot compare my excess cyber layer?

Yes. Primary and excess programs can be compared layer by layer, and your Spot team asks for the same structure from other insurers so limits are comparable.

### Is there any tie between Spot and Cowbell?

No tie of any kind. Spot isn’t affiliated with Cowbell, and this page is written from public research.

### My financing is monthly. Can I still switch?

You can, but your finance agreement sets the cancellation balance. Financing doesn’t make the policy month to month, so we plan the move for renewal when possible.

### Does Spot get a cut of the premium?

No. Spot takes no commissions on premiums and works with the agent or broker who places your coverage.
