# Switching from Counterpart? Compare your options with Spot

Counterpart sells management and professional liability to small businesses through brokers, so your Spot team starts with the broker’s paperwork and asks for each line again elsewhere.

- D&O, EPL, fiduciary and crime compared line by line
- Shared limits spotted before you decide
- Policy documents kept in one place

## How it works

- **Share your program and the broker’s details.** Upload the declarations and forms for each Counterpart policy and tell us the broker who submitted your application. Your Spot team notes which lines sit together and which limits they share.
- **Write up the business once.** We collect your headcount, ownership, board, benefit plans and handling of money, then check what your lender or investor contracts expect from management liability.
- **Brokers quote the same components.** We ask brokers for management liability, professional liability and general liability as your program has them, so replies compare one for one in Slack.
- **Look at structure as well as price.** Your Spot team compares whether lines share a limit, the retentions, and the retroactive dates, then helps you bind before the Counterpart policies end.

Counterpart markets management and professional liability programs to small businesses through a broker-focused platform. It describes tools and services for brokers. Its coverage list includes directors and officers, employment practices, fiduciary, crime, general liability, professional liability and medical malpractice.

## Why businesses consider switching

- **Headcount or funding grew.** More employees and outside money can raise the exposure behind employment practices and directors and officers cover.
- **Professional work expanded.** A change in services can leave a professional liability policy mismatched to the contracts you now sign.
- **You want a broker who explains it.** Management liability has terms many owners read for the first time at claim; a person walking through them helps.
- **The renewal changed shape.** A new retention or exclusion can send you looking at how else the same lines might be structured.

## How to switch without a gap

- **Find your policy dates.** Each management liability line can have its own period. List the end date for every Counterpart policy before you start.
- **Match the claims-made terms.** D&O, EPL, fiduciary and professional liability pay on claims-made terms in most programs, so retroactive dates on the new policy matter.
- **Bind first, cancel second.** Hold the old policies until written confirmation of the new binders arrives. A gap can leave a past act without a policy to answer for it.
- **Tell your broker.** Counterpart works through brokers, so ask yours how to cancel and what the return premium looks like. Then update anyone who holds a certificate.

## Common questions

### Does my broker work with Counterpart’s platform?

A Counterpart help article tells applicants to work through a wholesale broker, so a broker placed your policy. Ask them about renewal terms, and bring in your Spot team to compare other proposals alongside them.

### Can I compare liability programs line by line?

Yes. D&O, EPL, fiduciary and crime often sit in one management liability program, and we ask for the same components elsewhere so the comparison is one for one.

### Are you working with Counterpart on this?

No. Spot isn’t affiliated with Counterpart. We use the name only to say which program this page is about.

### What if I’m only a few months into the term?

You can look now and decide later. Spot builds the submission and gathers proposals, and you pick a start date that avoids paying for two overlapping policies longer than needed.

### Does Spot replace my broker?

No. Spot works alongside brokers, takes no commissions on premiums, and leaves the placing to them.
