## How it works

- **List what you build and run.** Tell us about each product or service: software you develop, systems you host, hardware you install, advice you give. Your Spot team asks how each one earns revenue.
- **We add your contracts and practices.** Spot gathers sample customer contracts, your quality-control and security practices and your use of subcontractors into one submission.
- **Brokers take it to market.** We work with brokers to send the submission to insurers that write technology businesses, and follow up on their questions.
- **Check each quote covers your work.** Compare the activities each proposal insures, its limits and its claims-made timing, so a policy that names software doesn’t quietly leave out your hosting.

## What you’ll need

- **Products and services.** Software, hosting, consulting, integration, installation or hardware: each activity you sell, and how it generates revenue.
- **Customer contracts.** Sample agreements, licenses and limitation-of-liability clauses, plus any insurance requirements they set.
- **Revenue by product line.** Annual revenue split across what you sell, because insurers rate different activities differently.
- **Quality-control practices.** How you test, review and release work, and how you handle customer acceptance.
- **Security practices.** How you protect customer systems and data, which helps separate a failed deliverable from a security incident.
- **Subcontractors.** Whether outside developers or contractors do part of the work, and who is responsible for it.
- **Prior incidents and circumstances.** Customer complaints, outages or disputes that could turn into claims.
- **Current policy.** Your expiring terms and retroactive date, so a new quote can keep earlier work covered.

## What affects your price

- **What your technology does.** Software that runs a customer’s payments or operations carries more exposure than a tool they could easily replace.
- **Revenue and customer base.** More revenue and larger customers usually mean larger claims, and a higher price.
- **Limits, retention and defense costs.** Higher limits cost more, and whether defense costs reduce the limit changes what you actually have.
- **Contract terms.** The liability promises in your customer contracts shape the exposure an insurer takes on.
- **Claims-made timing.** The retroactive date and reporting terms affect how much earlier work the policy reaches.
- **Incidents and quality controls.** Prior problems, and how you test and review your work, are part of how underwriters judge you.

## Common questions

### Is tech E&O the same as cyber insurance?

No. Tech E&O concerns mistakes in your products or services. Cyber addresses incidents like a data breach or network failure. A package may include both, and we check which.

### Does tech E&O cover every breach of contract?

No. How a quote treats a missed promise depends on its terms, so we bring your contracts and liability caps into the conversation early.

### Does earlier work count if I change insurers?

It can, depending on the retroactive date and reporting terms. We compare them with your current policy and ask about an extended reporting period.

### Will Spot replace my insurance broker?

No. Spot works alongside brokers and takes no commissions on premiums. Your broker can use our write-up of your products and contracts, or you can pick a different one.
