## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us how you’d run a recall.** Your Spot team collects product identification, production and distribution records, complaints, warranty returns and prior incidents, plus how you would notify distributors, stop sales and offer refunds, repairs or replacements.
2. **See what each quote pays for.** We work with brokers to take your submission to market, then show what starts coverage in each proposal, which products qualify, and which expenses it addresses: customer notification, shipping, disposal, replacement, and any reputation or interruption costs.
3. **See how recall differs from liability.** Spot lines up your product liability and recall terms, because they address different losses: customer-injury lawsuits on one hand, the cost of taking products back on the other.
4. **Keep your records in one place.** Your Spot team keeps your policy, product records and renewal dates in one place and brings renewals forward as your product line changes.

## Who we help

- **Consumer product makers.** You design and manufacture goods that, if defective, may need to come back from customers and retailers.
- **Importers bringing in finished goods.** You sit in the supply chain between the maker and the shopper, and a withdrawal can still reach you.
- **Retailers selling private-label goods.** Your name is on the label, so the cost of pulling the product back may fall to you.
- **Food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical businesses.** Contamination risk may call for a contamination product rather than ordinary recall coverage, so check which one you’re quoted.

## When to get this coverage

- **A new product is about to reach shelves.** Tell your Spot team before it ships, so the product list in your quote matches what you actually sell.
- **You started importing finished goods.** Ask how the quote treats products you sell but didn’t make, and whether they qualify for coverage.
- **You received complaints about a product.** Collect your complaint, return and incident records, and ask your counsel about any duty to report to the regulator.
- **Your product is food, a cosmetic or a drug.** Ask whether the quote is a contamination product rather than ordinary recall coverage.
- **Your recall policy is up for renewal.** Update your product list, then re-check which triggers and expenses the policy addresses before it rolls over.

## Common questions

Also known as recall insurance, product contamination insurance, contaminated products insurance, food recall insurance and recall expense insurance.

### Can my broker place recall alongside our product liability?

Yes. Spot works with your broker to take both to market together and takes no commissions on premiums. If your broker doesn’t place much recall coverage, you can switch to one who does.

### Doesn’t product liability already cover this?

Not automatically. Product liability addresses claims that a product caused injury or damage. Recall expenses are a separate loss, so ask whether the liability quote excludes them.

### What triggers recall coverage?

Each policy states its own trigger, and food and beverage makers often buy it as product contamination insurance. Ask whether coverage starts with a voluntary withdrawal, a government-ordered recall or another stated event, and which products qualify.

### Does reporting a hazard to the CPSC mean a recall?

No. Reporting a product doesn’t by itself mean the agency will require a recall. Ask your counsel about any reporting duty.

### Which records should we pull together for a recall quote?

Gather product identification, production and distribution records, complaints, warranty returns and prior incidents, plus a short account of how you’d notify distributors and stop sales.
