## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us what you make, sell or distribute.** Your Spot team writes up each product line, every role you play from design to retail, your sales, and where the products are sold and used, so the quote covers the business you actually run.
2. **Keep the records insurers ask for.** Testing, quality-control steps, customer complaints, warranty returns, lawsuits and prior losses all come up when eligibility and terms are discussed. Spot keeps them with your policies, so the next submission doesn’t start from a blank page.
3. **Compare cover for products you’ve sold.** Once brokers have taken your submission to market, we set each proposal’s products-completed operations aggregate beside its general aggregate, check whether defense costs reduce either one, and show how it treats damage to your own product and recalls.
4. **Get proof of coverage for partners.** When a partner or investor wants evidence of product liability before the deal closes, ask in your shared Slack channel. Your Spot team gets a certificate ready that shows your products coverage.

## Who we help

- **Manufacturers and brand owners.** You design and make the product, so a defect, a weak warning label or an overstated marketing claim can all lead back to you.
- **Component suppliers and contract manufacturers.** You make one part or build to someone else’s design, and a lawsuit over the finished product can still name your business.
- **Importers and wholesale distributors.** You didn’t make it, but moving it toward the customer puts you on the path a claimant can follow.
- **Retailers and online sellers.** Selling a product can bring a product-liability claim even when someone else manufactured it.
- **Packagers.** Repackaging someone else’s goods still puts your business in the product’s chain, along with the labels and instructions you add.

## When to get this coverage

- **A new product line is about to ship.** Add it to your submission before it ships. Instructions, labels and marketing copy belong in the discussion as much as how the product is made.
- **A partner or investor wants product liability in place.** Their agreement can make coverage a condition. Check what your current policy says about products before you commit to a date.
- **You’ve gone from reselling to making.** Taking on design, manufacturing or contract production changes your role in the chain, and the quote should change with it.
- **Your products coverage renews soon.** Bring updated sales, any new markets and whatever came in through complaints or warranty returns, then compare the products terms again before the policy rolls over.
- **You found a problem with stock already sold.** Product liability addresses claims for injury and damage. It doesn’t automatically pay to pull products back, so ask whether separate product recall coverage fits.

## Common questions

Also known as products liability insurance, products-completed operations insurance and product liability coverage.

### Is product liability already part of my general liability policy?

It may be, as the products-completed operations part of that policy, or it may be offered as a stand-alone policy. Endorsements can also restrict or remove it. Spot confirms which arrangement each proposal actually gives you.

### If we pull a product off the shelves, does product liability pay for it?

Not automatically. Withdrawal and recall costs can be excluded even where injury claims are insured. Spot checks the recall wording in each quote and can take product recall coverage to market alongside it.

### What if my product simply doesn’t work as promised?

Ask before you buy. A policy can exclude damage to your own product and claims that it failed to perform as expected. Spot puts that question to every proposal.

### We only distribute. Do we need our own coverage?

Distributors and retailers can face products liability claims as well as manufacturers. Don’t assume the manufacturer’s policy protects you; describe your own role so your quote covers it.

### Which product records will insurers ask for?

Expect to share product descriptions, your role, sales and markets, plus any testing, quality-control, complaint, warranty, lawsuit and prior-loss records. Your Spot team helps you pull them together.

### Does Spot take a cut of my premium?

No. Spot works with the broker who places your products coverage today and takes no commissions on premiums. You can also switch to a broker with more manufacturing and distribution business.
