## How it works

- **Describe your content.** Tell us what you write, design, film or publish, for yourself and for clients. Your Spot team asks where it appears.
- **Add your licenses and agreements.** We collect image, music and footage licenses, and client contracts that say who warrants supplied material.
- **Brokers take it to market.** We work with brokers to request proposals from insurers that write media businesses, and follow up on their questions.
- **Check each activity is in the quote.** See which rights claims each proposal addresses, whether it includes your activities and how defense and settlement terms work.

## What you’ll need

- **Content you create and publish.** Articles, newsletters, campaigns, videos or broadcasts, and how you produce them.
- **Content you make for clients.** Advertising or campaigns produced for others, which the quote needs to include by name.
- **Licensed images, music and footage.** License terms, including any usage or territory limits.
- **Client-supplied material.** Logos, copy or testimonials a client gave you, and which party warrants them in the contract.
- **Hosting and distribution.** Whether you host, broadcast or distribute other people’s material.
- **Review process.** How content is checked before it goes live.
- **Prior complaints and claims.** Any allegation about defamation, privacy, copyright or trademark, and your current policy.

## What affects your price

- **Type and reach of content.** Content published widely, or on sensitive subjects, carries more exposure than internal material.
- **Activities covered.** Producing, publishing, hosting and distributing are different activities and may be priced separately.
- **Rights claims included.** Defamation, privacy, copyright and trademark coverage can each be a separate grant.
- **Limits and retention.** Higher limits cost more, and accepting a higher retention can bring the premium down.
- **Complaint history.** Earlier allegations over content raise the price or narrow who will quote.

## Common questions

### Does media liability cover copyright complaints?

It may, if the policy includes that right and your activity. License terms and who is responsible for client-supplied material can change the answer.

### How is this different from tech E&O or cyber?

Media liability is about claims over content. A failed deliverable is tech E&O, and a data incident is cyber. We check each concern has a place in your program.

### Does it matter that I produce content for clients?

Yes. Client campaigns need to be named among the covered activities, so we ask for them specifically.

### Do I need a new broker for media liability?

No. Keep the broker you have and we’ll work with them, with no commissions on premiums. Or let us help you find a different one.
