# Compare inland marine insurance quotes with Spot

Spot checks how each inland marine quote values, schedules and limits the equipment you move, then compares causes of loss.

- Valuation and deductible wording compared

## How it works

- **Send your inventory and the quotes.** Share an equipment list with values, serial numbers and locations, along with each proposal.
- **We compare scheduling and valuation.** Spot checks which of your items each quote lists, how a damaged one would be valued and whether replacement-cost payment depends on repairing or replacing it.
- **Ask about a full trailer.** Tell your Spot team the most you’d carry at once. They compare each quote’s limit on a single item with its cap on a loss involving several.
- **Choose and bind.** Pick the quote that follows your equipment. Your Spot team helps you bind it and keeps your records handy for the day you file a claim.

## What to compare

- **Scheduled property.** Which owned, rented or borrowed items are listed individually, and which ones you still need to add.
- **Valuation.** How a damaged item is valued and whether replacement-cost payment depends on repairing or replacing it.
- **Item limit versus loss limit.** The limit on each item against any cap on a single loss involving several. A trailer full of tools can be worth far more than one tool.
- **Deductible.** Whether it’s a fixed amount or a percentage, and how the percentage is calculated.
- **Territory and movement.** Where equipment is stored, used and transported, and the quote’s territorial limits.
- **Lent or rented property.** Restrictions on equipment you lend or rent to someone else.
- **Causes of loss.** How wear and tear, mechanical breakdown, unexplained disappearance and loss of use are treated.
- **Reporting and records.** The reporting instructions, and the records you’ll need to establish ownership and value.

## Differences to watch for

- **A loaded trailer.** The limit on one tool can be fine while the cap on a single loss falls short of everything in the trailer.
- **Unexplained disappearance.** Equipment that goes missing without a clear cause may be excluded. Ask how each quote words it.
- **Percentage deductibles.** A percentage deductible depends on what it’s a percentage of. The base changes the dollar amount you bear.
- **Overlap with other policies.** Off-site terms in a commercial property policy, cargo coverage and equipment breakdown each address something different. Check which one applies to your loss.

## Common questions

### What is an equipment floater?

A type of inland marine coverage for equipment that moves between locations.

### Do I need to list every tool?

It depends on the quote. Spot shows how each one schedules property so you can see what would be left out.

### Do I have to leave my broker to compare through Spot?

No. Spot works with brokers instead of replacing them, and takes no commissions on premiums.

### What records help if I make a claim?

Purchase records, serial numbers, photographs and current locations. Your Spot team can keep them with your policy.
