[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=fidelity-bonds). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **Decide whose money you’re protecting.** Your Spot team starts by working out whether you need protection for your own business, for a client’s property or for an employee benefit plan, since each calls for different coverage.
2. **See who each quote covers and for how much.** Once your broker has quotes back, we show how each proposal defines employees, alongside the limit per loss, any overall limit and the deductible or retention.
3. **Check when you have to report a theft.** Spot flags when a loss must happen or be discovered, when you have to report it, and whether the policy addresses only the direct loss or also the costs and business losses that follow it.
4. **Keep your bond with your other policies.** Your Spot team keeps the bond and its terms with your other policies and brings the renewal forward, which matters most when a new bond replaces an existing one.

## Who we help

- **Businesses where staff handle money or stock.** Theft by an employee is the exposure, and what the policy pays depends on how it defines employees and property.
- **Companies managing client property.** Money or property you hold for clients is a separate question from your own, so ask whether the bond reaches it.
- **Sponsors of employee benefit plans.** A plan’s fidelity bond protects the plan against loss from fraud or dishonesty by the people who handle its funds or property.
- **Employers using temporary workers or contractors.** Whether they count as covered people depends on the policy’s definition, so check it before you rely on it.

## When to get this coverage

- **You started a retirement or benefit plan.** A plan’s bond protects the plan itself, not your company’s own money. Arrange it as the plan is set up rather than afterward.
- **You took on client money or property.** Confirm the bond’s definition of clients and their property reaches what you now hold.
- **You’re replacing an existing bond.** Ask how the new quote treats losses that occurred or were discovered under the old one, and how reporting works across the change.
- **You hired a seasonal or contract team.** Ask whether temporary workers and contractors fall under the policy’s employee definition.
- **You’ve just discovered a theft.** Check the policy’s reporting deadline right away, then tell your broker and your Spot team so the loss is reported on time.

## Common questions

Also known as employee dishonesty bond, employee theft insurance, fidelity insurance, ERISA fidelity bond, ERISA bond and business services bond.

### Can Spot review the bond our current broker placed?

Yes. Send it over and Spot compares its terms with what your business, clients and plans need. Spot doesn’t replace your broker and takes no commissions on premiums, so you can keep them or switch.

### What does a fidelity bond cover?

Fidelity bonds and employee-dishonesty policies can help your business recover losses caused by dishonest employees, subject to the limits and terms you buy.

### Is a fidelity bond the same as a surety bond?

No. A fidelity bond deals with dishonest acts that cause you a loss. A surety bond guarantees an obligation you owe to someone else.

### Is it the same as fiduciary liability?

No. Fiduciary liability addresses alleged breaches of plan duties, not dishonest acts that cause a loss, and it doesn’t substitute for the ERISA fidelity bond that covers people who handle plan money.

### What does a bond application ask about?

Expect questions about the entities and locations to insure, your employees, the money and property at risk, past losses, and the controls you use for cash and inventory.
