# Compare digital asset insurance quotes with Spot

Digital asset quotes can look the same while insuring different wallets and entities, so Spot checks exactly what each one protects.

- Wallets, custody and insured entities checked per quote
- Theft, employee dishonesty and key loss compared separately
- Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

## How it works

- **Map your custody and share the quotes.** Describe which assets you own, which you hold for customers, who controls the keys and which entity holds what, then send the proposals.
- **We check what each quote actually protects.** Spot compares each proposal’s wallets, storage methods, insured entity and valuation method against your map.
- **Ask about each kind of loss.** Your Spot team checks whether each quote addresses outside theft, employee theft and lost keys, since a headline doesn’t show all three.
- **Choose and bind.** Pick the quote that matches how you hold assets. Your Spot team helps you bind and keeps the policy where your partners and investors can ask for proof.

## What to compare

- **Assets and wallets.** The specific assets, wallets and storage arrangements the quote names.
- **Insured entity.** Which legal entity the quote protects, especially if different entities control different wallets.
- **Your assets and customers’ assets.** Whether the quote distinguishes what you own from what you hold for others.
- **Valuation and limits.** The method, currency and limit used, compared with your asset values.
- **Outside theft.** Whether the quote covers theft by someone outside your business. A headline about insurance doesn’t show that all three kinds of loss are included.
- **Employee theft.** Whether the quote covers theft by someone inside your business, which is a separate question from outside theft.
- **Lost or destroyed keys.** Whether the quote covers losing access to the keys that control an asset, which is separate from theft.
- **Market price and technology failures.** How the contract treats price changes and code or network failures.

## Differences to watch for

- **A custodian’s policy protects the custodian.** Insurance a custodian advertises may not insure you directly. Ask how your loss would be handled.
- **One statement hiding several arrangements.** “Your assets are insured” doesn’t say which holdings, wallets or entities.
- **Value isn’t guaranteed.** Custody or theft insurance doesn’t guarantee an asset’s market value.
- **Other policies aren’t substitutes.** Cyber, professional liability and D&O address different risks and don’t establish that assets you hold are insured.

## Common questions

### Does FDIC insurance cover crypto?

No. FDIC deposit insurance does not insure cryptocurrency, so a custodian’s mention of it does not answer the question of what insures your assets.

### What if my custodian says it has insurance?

Ask whether you’re insured directly or the policy protects the custodian. Spot helps you frame that question.

### Does Spot work with my broker?

Yes. Your broker can stay, because Spot takes no commissions on premiums and works with whichever broker you choose.

### What details do quotes depend on?

Your wallets and storage methods, who holds the keys and approves access, the insured entities and asset values.
