[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=cyber). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us about your systems and data.** Your Spot team lists your systems, the data you hold and the outside services you depend on, then writes up your backups, access controls, software updates, staff training and incident-response plan as you actually run them.
2. **See how much each quote would pay.** As brokers bring back cyber proposals, we set out each proposal’s overall limit, the separate limits for response, recovery, interruption and liability, and what you pay before coverage responds. The same headline limit can leave very different amounts for the incident you’re worried about.
3. **Check a customer’s cyber requirements.** Send the contract or vendor questionnaire. Spot compares the cyber coverage it asks for with your policy and flags what’s missing before procurement does.
4. **Know who to call after a breach.** Ask in your shared Slack channel who your policy says to contact after an incident, which response firms you can use and whether spending needs the insurer’s approval. The Spot agent answers from your policy wording.

## Who we help

- **Businesses holding customer records.** A stolen database can mean investigators and response costs right away, and customer claims months later.
- **Companies that sell through hosted systems.** If your ordering or booking platform goes down, sales stop, and the interruption terms decide what lost income the policy can replace.
- **Businesses that rely on outside vendors.** Your payroll, hosting and payment providers hold your data, so their incident can quickly become your problem.
- **Vendors to larger customers.** Procurement sends a security questionnaire and a contract clause asking for cyber coverage before you’re approved.
- **Finance teams that pay by wire.** A spoofed invoice is a theft question, and a cyber policy may not cover money you send to a fraudster.

## When to get this coverage

- **A customer contract asks for cyber coverage.** The clause or security questionnaire sets the coverage a vendor has to carry. Check it against your policy before you sign the contract.
- **You’ve started storing customer data.** A new product, signup flow or payment process puts records in your systems. Describe the change so the quote reflects the data you now hold.
- **You moved key systems to a new provider.** Ask whether your policy reaches incidents at vendors that hold your data, and whether its geographic scope fits where they operate.
- **Your cyber renewal application just arrived.** Your systems, vendors and controls have changed since last year. Update the description, then compare triggers, reporting deadlines and retroactive dates before you accept the renewal.

## Common questions

Also known as cyber liability insurance, cybersecurity insurance, cyber security insurance, cyber risk insurance, data breach insurance and ransomware insurance.

### Does cyber insurance cover money sent to a fraudster?

Not automatically. Funds-transfer fraud can fall outside the cyber terms, so Spot asks about it separately in every proposal and checks whether you need crime coverage alongside.

### Can I use my own incident-response firm?

The policy may limit your choice or require approval before you spend. Spot checks the response contacts and approval rules in each proposal, so you know ahead of time whether your preferred firm qualifies.

### What’s the difference between first-party and third-party cyber coverage?

First-party coverage can help pay your own covered costs, like breach response, data recovery and income lost during a covered interruption. Third-party coverage, the cyber liability part, addresses covered claims against you, including defense and settlements after a breach. Spot checks that each proposal includes the parts you need.

### What will insurers ask about our security?

They ask about your systems, data and outside services, which operations would stop without them, and your backups, access controls, software updates, staff training and incident-response plan. Your Spot team helps you describe them as you actually run them.

### Can my current broker place our cyber policy?

Yes. Spot gives your broker the systems and controls write-up for the application, compares the proposals that come back, and takes no commissions on premiums. If you’d rather place cyber through a different broker, we can help you switch.
