# Compare cyber insurance quotes with Spot

Two cyber quotes can share a headline limit and pay very differently, so Spot breaks each proposal into the amounts available for a real incident.

- Response, recovery, interruption and liability limits split out
- Triggers, reporting deadlines and vendor terms flagged
- Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

## How it works

- **Send us the proposals.** Forward the cyber quotes your broker returns, along with the application describing your systems and controls, so every quote is read against the same facts.
- **We split each limit into its parts.** Spot separates the overall limit from the amounts for incident response, data recovery, income loss and liability, and notes what you pay before each one responds.
- **Check the terms that decide a claim.** Ask your Spot team about response-firm approval, reporting deadlines, vendor incidents and funds-transfer fraud. The Spot agent answers from each proposal’s wording.
- **Choose and bind.** Select the proposal whose limits and conditions match your biggest exposure. Your Spot team helps you bind it and keeps the policy where your customers’ questionnaires can be checked against it.

## What to compare

- **First-party coverage sections.** Response costs, data recovery and income lost during a covered interruption. Confirm each is included, not assumed from the headline.
- **Third-party liability section.** Defense and covered settlements after a claim against you following a breach. Check its limit separately from the first-party limits.
- **Sublimits.** Smaller limits for particular costs, such as ransomware or social-engineering losses, can be far below the overall limit.
- **Retention.** What your business pays first. It can differ by section, so read it for each one.
- **Triggers and waiting periods.** What event starts each section and how long an interruption must last before income coverage responds.
- **Retroactive date and reporting deadlines.** How earlier incidents, retroactive dates and late notice affect a claim, and what triggers each coverage section.
- **Response firms and approval.** Who you call, which specialists you can use and whether spending needs approval first.
- **Vendors and geography.** Whether incidents at outside providers that hold your data are included, and whether the territory fits where you operate.

## Differences to watch for

- **Same headline limit, different amounts.** A policy can list one large limit and still cap response, interruption or liability well below it.
- **Funds-transfer fraud.** Money sent to a fraudster may fall outside cyber terms. A quote that’s silent on it isn’t covering it; ask, and check crime coverage.
- **Your own incident-response firm.** A quote may require its panel vendors or approval before you spend. Find out before an incident, not during one.
- **Vendor outages.** Interruption coverage for an outage at a provider you depend on depends on the trigger. Not every quote reaches it.
- **War and similar exclusions.** Read how each proposal words them; the language varies by quote.

## Common questions

### Why do two cyber quotes with the same limit differ in price?

Usually because the limit is divided differently, or retentions, triggers and exclusions differ. Spot shows those parts side by side.

### Does Spot choose the quote for me?

No. Spot makes the differences visible and your team answers questions. You choose, and your Spot team helps you bind.

### Can I compare quotes that came through different brokers?

Yes. Send them all and Spot reads each against the same description of your systems. Spot works with brokers and takes no commissions on premiums.

### Will Spot check a customer’s cyber requirements too?

Yes. Send the contract clause or security questionnaire and Spot compares it with each proposal’s coverage.
