## How it works

- **Tell us who handles money and property.** List the employees, contractors and volunteers who handle cash, payments, inventory or client assets. Your Spot team asks how payments are approved.
- **Add your history and current terms.** We collect past losses, your current crime or fidelity coverage and the limits you want to discuss into one submission.
- **Brokers take it to market.** We work with brokers to request proposals from crime insurers, and follow up on what underwriters ask about your controls.
- **Compare each kind of loss.** Employee theft, forgery, money on premises or in transit and funds-transfer fraud are checked separately, along with discovery and reporting terms.

## What you’ll need

- **People who handle money or property.** Employees, contractors and volunteers with access, since the policy defines who counts as an employee.
- **Client property you hold.** Money or assets of customers in your care, which may or may not count as insured property.
- **Payment procedures.** How payments and changes to bank details are approved, which matters for impersonation and funds-transfer fraud.
- **Money at locations and in transit.** Where cash or valuables are kept and how they move.
- **Inventory practices.** How you count and track stock, since a shortage supported only by inventory calculations may be treated differently.
- **Prior losses.** Thefts or frauds you’ve had, including when they happened and when you discovered them.
- **Current coverage and limits.** Your expiring crime policy and the limits and retentions you want to compare.

## What affects your price

- **How much money and property you handle.** More cash, payments and assets in motion means more to lose.
- **Who has access.** More people with access to money or accounts raises the exposure.
- **Which losses you insure.** Employee theft, forgery, in-transit money and computer or funds-transfer fraud each carry their own limit and cost.
- **Limits and retention.** Higher limits cost more, and a higher retention can lower the price.
- **Loss history.** Earlier thefts and frauds affect whether and how insurers quote.

## Common questions

### Does crime insurance cover a payment sent to a fake supplier?

Not automatically. A payment an employee was tricked into authorizing needs explicit attention, because computer-fraud or funds-transfer coverage may not respond. We ask it of every proposal.

### What if I discover a theft months later?

Discovery and reporting dates matter. If you changed insurers in between, we help explain how both policies’ terms apply.

### Is crime the same as cyber coverage?

No. Crime addresses stolen money or property, while cyber covers breach response and liability. Where fraud protection overlaps, we check both.

### Does Spot replace my broker for crime coverage?

No. We work alongside your broker, take no commissions on premiums and can help you move to a different broker if you’d like.
