## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us about your vehicles and drivers.** Your Spot team collects each vehicle’s identification details, who owns and drives it, how it’s used, any modifications and safety features, driver histories and your current coverage, then turns it into a submission.
2. **See what each quote covers.** After your broker takes the submission to market, we lay out liability, collision and comprehensive, deductibles and how a total loss would be valued, vehicle by vehicle, before you bind.
3. **Check what a customer contract asks for.** When a customer contract asks for auto liability, send it over. Spot checks the requirement against your policy and, if you need a higher limit, asks whether the umbrella quote lists your auto policy as underlying insurance.
4. **Get proof of auto coverage when asked.** When a customer or property manager wants a certificate showing your auto coverage, ask in your shared Slack channel. Your Spot team checks the limits they name and gets the certificate ready.

## Who we help

- **Contractors and service crews with work vans.** The van carries your crew and tools to every job, and one accident can bring a claim from the other driver and a repair bill for your own vehicle.
- **Businesses with a few company cars.** Staff take company cars to sales calls and sometimes home at night, so you need to know which drivers and trips the policy includes.
- **Companies whose staff drive their own cars.** A policy on vehicles you own doesn’t answer every work trip in a personal or rented car, so hired and non-owned auto liability belongs in the same conversation.
- **Businesses delivering their own products.** An auto policy can exclude or restrict property carried in the vehicle, so the goods need their own question.
- **Owners still driving on a personal policy.** Tell your personal insurer how you use the car for work, because that policy may not protect the business for those trips.

## When to get this coverage

- **You bought or leased a vehicle.** A new van or truck has to be on the policy under the right parts of it. Add it with its details before it starts work.
- **An employee started driving their own car for work.** Deliveries, errands or client visits in a personal car raise a liability question your owned-vehicle policy may not answer. Look at hired and non-owned auto liability alongside it.
- **Company cars go home at night.** Ask whether the quote includes personal use of company vehicles and every driver who makes those trips.
- **Your fleet changed since the last renewal.** Vehicles and drivers have come and gone since last year. Send an updated list and compare deductibles and valuation terms rather than renewing as offered.
- **A customer wants a higher liability limit.** If you plan to meet it with an umbrella, ask whether the umbrella quote lists your auto policy as underlying insurance before you sign the contract.

## Common questions

Also known as business auto insurance, commercial vehicle insurance, business car insurance, commercial car insurance, fleet insurance, company car insurance and work van insurance.

### Will my personal auto policy cover driving for work?

It may not. Tell your personal insurer how you use the vehicle for work, because your personal policy may not protect the business for that use. Spot can take a commercial auto submission, which some insurers call business auto, to market so you can compare.

### Does commercial auto pay to fix our own vehicles?

Only if you buy that protection. Liability addresses injury or damage your vehicle causes to others; collision and comprehensive address damage to an insured vehicle. Spot shows which vehicles each proposal covers for damage, the deductible and how a total loss would be valued.

### Are the tools and goods in the van covered?

Don’t assume so. Auto policies can exclude or restrict property carried in the vehicle. Spot asks brokers how each proposal treats them and whether the goods need separate coverage.

### Which vehicle and driver details do brokers need?

Start with your vehicle list with identification details, who owns and drives each vehicle and how you use it, driver histories, current coverage, and any modifications or safety features. Your Spot team asks what the insurer needs for an initial quote.

### Can my current broker still place our auto policy?

Yes. Spot works with the broker who already places your vehicles, sends them an updated vehicle and driver list, and takes no commissions on premiums. If you’d rather move the account, we’ll help you switch.
