## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us who does what in your study.** Your Spot team records the sponsor, study sites, investigators, product and the services your company performs, using the same roles that appear in your protocol and contracts.
2. **Read the trial and supply agreements.** Send the clinical trial or manufacturing agreement. Spot checks the insurance it requires and the obligations you accept against your policies, and flags any obligation your policies don’t clearly address.
3. **Compare quotes from life sciences specialists.** We work with brokers who place life sciences business, then compare how each proposal treats your candidate, study stage, territories and data, with exclusions and sublimits side by side.
4. **Keep each program’s documents together.** Policies, protocols and supply agreements stay together by program, so the next study or manufacturing contract starts from what’s already documented.

## Who we help

- **IND sponsors.** Your company submits the IND and takes on product and study responsibilities that need their own review.
- **Clinical-stage biotechs.** Participants, sites, investigators and vendors all touch your study, and your trial agreements assign duties to you.
- **Companies preparing to manufacture.** Contract manufacturers, storage sites and couriers each handle your product lots.
- **Service providers to sponsors.** You run study operations or analyze data for another company’s IND.

## Coverage

- [Professional errors and omissions (E&O)](https://spot.insure/insurance/professional-errors-omissions)
- [Cyber liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/cyber)
- [Commercial property](https://spot.insure/insurance/commercial-property)
- [Cargo and transit](https://spot.insure/insurance/cargo-transit)

## When to get this coverage

- **You’re opening an IND study.** Identify the sponsor and your company’s role, then ask how proposed forms address study operations, participant events and product allegations.
- **Contract manufacturing is about to begin.** List each lot, manufacturer, storage site, testing role and shipment route, and whether it goes to a study or to market.
- **Clinical supply is moving between depots and sites.** Ask which transit wording fits the materials and route, including temperature, delay and contamination terms.
- **You’re leasing a lab or production site.** Schedule each site, machine, inventory and any customer-owned materials at their values.
- **You’re preparing for a first sale.** Product liability for a commercial product is a different conversation from study-stage coverage. Update the stage, indication and territories.

## Common questions

Also known as biotech insurance, biotech company insurance, biotechnology insurance, biopharma insurance, pharmaceutical company insurance, pharma insurance and life sciences insurance.

### What does biotech insurance usually include?

For a drug or biologic developer: clinical trial and product liability, professional liability for any study services you provide, cyber for trial data, property for the lab and cargo cover for clinical supplies. Spot sequences them by development stage.

### Is product liability the same as clinical trial insurance?

Not necessarily, and the line names won’t tell you. Spot asks a specialist broker to compare your study duties, participant events and product allegations with the proposed forms.

### Does product liability include recall or supply interruption?

Not by its name. Recall, participant injury and supply interruption costs are separate questions, and Spot raises each one with the specialist broker.

### What should we tell the broker before contract manufacturing?

Each product and lot, the manufacturer, storage site, testing role, shipment route and destination. Your Spot team gathers them into the submission.

### Do we need cyber if a CRO holds the study data?

A CRO holding the data doesn’t settle it. Spot maps your sites, investigators and vendors first, then compares how each cyber proposal treats vendor-held study data and response costs.

### Can our existing broker stay on the account as we move into the clinic?

Yes. Spot doesn’t replace your broker and takes no commissions on premiums. If your trial agreements need a broker with more life sciences markets, Spot can help you switch.
