[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=general-liability&industry=industrials&icp=manufacturing). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us about every site and machine.** Your Spot team writes down each entity’s work, sites, employees, machinery, stock, customer property and installation or transit activity, so a broker sees the operation you run today rather than last year’s.
2. **List property by who owns it.** We separate the building, installed machinery, movable tools, prototypes, inventory and anything a customer left with you, then check that each quote lists them with the right values, valuation basis and deductibles.
3. **See which policy covers each activity.** Spot asks brokers to point to the wording behind your demonstrations, installations, shipped products and moving equipment, and flags exclusions such as pollution or damage to your own work.
4. **Update your policies as you grow.** When a bench prototype becomes a field installation or a shipped product, tell your Spot team. We keep your documents together and update the description before the next renewal.

## Who we help

- **Hardware startups opening a workshop.** Your lease, your prototypes and the visitors walking through the space each raise a different insurance question.
- **Companies running customer pilots.** Tools and test equipment leave your site, and your team works on someone else’s floor.
- **Manufacturers shipping finished products.** Once a product leaves your control, injury or damage it causes later is a products and completed-operations question.
- **Growing production teams.** Each hire who builds, tests, installs or repairs hardware changes your workers’ compensation picture.

## When to get this coverage

- **You’re signing a workshop lease.** Make an inventory first. Building interests, installed equipment, movable tools and customer-owned items should each appear on the property schedule at current values.
- **Equipment is heading to a pilot or trade show.** A scheduled workshop location doesn’t follow your tools on the road. Ask which inland marine form covers each item and each leg of the trip.
- **A production machine has become critical.** Property forms can exclude machinery breakdown. Name the machine and ask whether equipment breakdown terms address resulting income loss or extra expense.
- **You’re shipping your first product.** Update your operations description so products and completed-operations terms describe what you sell, where, and in which hardware and software combinations.
- **Your process generates hazardous waste.** Standard general liability can restrict pollution coverage. List the waste types and quantities before you ask a broker about environmental terms.

## Common questions

Also known as industrial company insurance, industrial business insurance, hardware company insurance and hardware startup insurance.

### What insurance does a hardware startup need?

Usually general liability from the first lease, product liability once units ship, property and equipment breakdown for your workshop, inland marine for gear on the move and workers’ compensation when you hire. Spot sequences them by stage.

### Does general liability cover a product after we ship it?

It can, through products and completed-operations terms, for bodily injury or property damage your goods or finished work cause. Your declared products, exclusions and aggregate limits decide the scope, so Spot checks them before you ship.

### Is equipment covered when we take it to a customer site?

Not by your workshop’s property schedule alone. Equipment floaters, installation floaters and trip-transit forms each cover different stages. Your Spot team asks brokers which one fits your trips.

### Will product liability pay to repair or recall our product?

Don’t assume it will. Products terms address injury and damage to others, not repairing your own product, recalls or warranty promises. Ask whether recall expense is available on a separate form.

### Which figures should we pull together before a broker quotes?

Send each site’s headcount and duties, the value of your machinery and stock, what you ship and where, and any pilot or customer agreements. Your Spot team builds the submission from those and asks for anything missing.

### Our broker rarely places hardware business. Can Spot help?

Yes. Spot can work alongside your current broker on the submission and proposals, or help you move to one with more industrial markets. Spot takes no commissions on premiums whichever you choose.
